An X-ray image intensifier includes an envelope having an input window consisting of an aluminum alloy, and an input phosphor screen arranged in the envelope to oppose the input window, and including a substrate, an input phosphor layer formed on the substrate, and a photocathode formed on the input phosphor layer, wherein the aluminum alloy contains 3 to 6 wt % of Mg and 0.01 to 0.5 wt % of Zr. This aluminum alloy may further contain at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of 0.1 to 1 wt % of Mn, 0.01 to 0.5 wt % of Cr, 0.01 to 0.5 wt % of Sc, and 0.01 to 0.05 wt % of Ti.

The present invention provides a method of producing a hardened aluminum alloy sheet having superior thermal stability, the method comprising the steps of: homogenizing an ingot of an aluminum alloy consisting essentially of, in weight percentage, 3.0 to 6.0% Mg and 0.4 to 0.8% Mn, with the balance being Al and incidental impurities; hot rolling the homogenized ingot to a sheet; cold rolling the hot-rolled sheet at a rolling reduction of at least 20%; intermediate heat treating the cold-rolled sheet at 200.degree. to 250.degree. C. for one hour or more; and final cold rolling the intermediate heat-treated sheet at a reduction of at least 50%. In this process, the aluminum ingot may further contain from 0.05 to 0.4% Cu with or without 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.1 to 0.5% Fe, 0.01 to 0.05% Ti and 0.0001 to 0.0010% B. Further, the above homogenizing and hot rolling steps may be replaced by the steps of homogenizing, hot rolling to a sheet thickness of 2 to 6 mm, cold rolling and annealing for recrystallization.

The present invention provides a method of producing a hardened aluminum alloy sheet comprising the steps of casting an aluminum alloy containing 4.0 to 6.0% Mg in a conventional including, homogenizing, hot rolling, cold rolling, intermediate annealing and stabilizing treatment, the improvement which comprises: the aluminum alloy is provided as an Al-Mg-Cu alloy containing, in addition to Mg, 0.05 to 0.50% Cu; and the Al-Mg-Cu alloy is subjected to a final intermediate annealing treatment comprising a heating to temperatures of 350.degree. to 500.degree. C. and rapid cooling to temperatures of 70.degree. C. or less at a cooling rate of 1.degree. C./sec or more and a finishing cold rolling with a reduction of at least 50%, followed by the stabilizing treatment, thereby providing a hardened aluminum alloy sheet having a superior corrosion resistance together with high levels of strength and formability. In the above production method, the finishing cold rolling with a reduction of at least 50% may be followed by coating and baking operations carried out under application of tension to the alloy.

A method of producing a hardened aluminum alloy forming sheet having a high strength and a superior corrosion resistance, the method comprising the steps of (1) providing a melt having a composition consisting of, in weight percentage, 4.0 to 6.0% Mg, 0.05 to 0.50% Cu, 0.10 to 1.0% Mn, 0.01 to 0.05% Ti and the balance being aluminum and impurities; (2) cooling to solidify the melt; (3) hot rolling and cold rolling to form a rolled sheet; and (4) heat treating the rolled sheet by heating to a temperature of 150.degree. to 300.degree. C. at a heating rate of at least 5.degree. C./second, holding within five minutes at the temperature of 150.degree. to 300.degree. C. and cooling to a temperature of 70.degree. C. or less at a cooling rate of at least 30.degree. C./second. The melt may further contain 0.05 to 0.20% by weight Cr and the heat treatment of the step (4) may be carried out under tension after flattening said cold-rolled sheet by leveling at ordinary temperatures. The present invention relates to a cold-rolled aluminum-alloy sheet having a high strength and a good formability required for producing a DI can. The sheet according to the present invention contains 0.1-2.0% Mn, 0.1-2.0% Mg, and 0.1 to 0.5% Si, has a thickness of 0.4 mm or less. The present invention is characterized by holding a sheet to a temperature of from 80.degree. to 150.degree. C., when it is already heat treated at 400.degree.-580.degree. A high strength, aluminum alloy sheet having good formability is disclosed which is particularly suitable for forming can-body parts and can-end parts, which sheet has received a final cold rolling reduction of at least 50% and consists essentially of Mn 0.30 to 1.50 wt. %, Mg 0.50 to 2.00 wt. %, preferably 0.50 to 1.25 wt. %, Si 0.52 to 1.00 wt. % and the balance being Al and incidental impurities. If required, the aluminum alloy forming sheet may also, in addition to the above elements, contain at least one component selected from the group consisting of Fe, Cu, Cr, Zn and Ti in specified ranges. A lithographic printing plate support and a process for producing it are disclosed. The plate is produced by providing an aluminum alloy material which is comprised of 0.20 to 1.0% Fe, 0.005 to 0.1% of an element selected from the group consisting of Sn, In, Ga and Zn and the remainder being aluminum. The alloy may further contain 0.1 to 2% Cu. After providing the aluminum material either or both of its surfaces are subjected to a chemical etching treatment in order to provide a uniform and dense grain structure on the surface forming primary pits in the surface having a particularly defined average size. The surface is then subjected to electrochemical etching treatment in an acidic electrolytic solution in order to provide secondary pits on the surface also having a particularly defined average size. The support base may be further treated to provide in additional coating thereon or directly coated with a light-sensitive layer in order to provide a light-sensitive lithographic printing plate. By providing the particular alloy material and subjecting it to the disclosed treatment the light-sensitive layer has good adhesion with respect to the support.

A hard tempered aluminum alloy sheet useful for deep drawing is prepared by a process comprising the steps of hot rolling an ingot of aluminum alloy consisting essentially of 4.0 to 6.0 Mg wt. %, at least one component selected from the group consisting of 0.1 to 0.7 wt. % Mn, 0.01 to 0.05 wt. % Zr, 0.005 to 0.12 wt. % V and up to 0.05 wt. % Ti and the balance aluminum to a sheet not more than 2.5 mm thick, intermediate annealing the hot rolled alloy and final cold rolling the annealed alloy to effect a rolling reduction of less than 85%. In case the finishing temperature of the hot rolling is adjusted to a temperature of 300.degree. to 350.degree. C., the above intermediate annealing can be omitted.
