Disclosed is an exercise-data management system, which comprises a wristbandincluding an IC chiprecording therein unique information for authenticating a participant, a studio gateset up in a studio and adapted to wirelessly receive and read the unique information recorded in the IC chip, and an exercise-data management server apparatus. The studio gateis operable, when the unique information is read, to transmit information indicating the read to the exercise-data management server apparatus. The exercise-data management server apparatusincludes a schedule storage section which stores, as a schedule, a location and a time zone in which an exercise is to be performed, and stores a standard consumed calorie value in association with an exercise type, and a total-consumed-calorie calculation section operable, based on the received unique information and the contents stored in the schedule storage section, to acquire a consumed calorie value for a participant corresponding to the unique information. The exercise-data management system of the present invention allows the studio gateas a reader apparatus to read the unique information of the wristbandas portable unique-information storage means, through a one-time operation.

An exercise assisting apparatus including a cycling machine, a rotation sensor for detecting pedaling movement of the cycling machine, a pulse sensor for detecting the pulse rate of the user, an exercise monitoring unit for monitoring the pulse rate of the user based on the detection results of the rotation sensor and the pulse sensor and a monitor for displaying a background image and a role-playing character.
