A method of repairing a short of a pixel electrode and a storage electrode including irradiating laser to separate a portion shorted to the pixel electrode among the storage electrode to be disconnected, in which the storage electrode includes a first portion overlapping a data line between two adjacent gate lines and a second portion connected to the first portion and enclosing an edge of a pixel area except for a region where the first portion is formed, the pixel area is defined by the data line and a gate line, a thin film transistor is coupled to the data line, the gate line, and the pixel electrode, and two adjacent pixel areas are defined by the two adjacent gate lines and two adjacent data lines, and the storage electrode is branched between pixel electrodes respectively formed in the two adjacent pixel areas.

Thin film transistor array panel, liquid crystal display, and method to repair the same

A method to repair a data line in a thin film transistor array panel includes, if the data line is disconnected at a disconnection portion, irradiating a laser on at least one side of the disconnected portion of the data line to short the data line and a storage electrode, and irradiating the laser to separate a portion shorted to the data line among the storage electrode to be disconnected. The storage electrode includes a first portion overlapping the data line between two adjacent gate lines and a second portion connected to the first portion and enclosing an edge of a pixel area except for a region where the first portion is formed. Two adjacent pixel areas are defined by the two adjacent gate lines and two adjacent data lines, and the storage electrode is branched between pixel electrodes.

The present invention relates to a thin film transistor array panel, a liquid crystal display, and a method capable of reducing an effect on neighboring pixels in a process of repairing a pixel defect. The thin film transistor array panel may include: a thin film transistor connected to a gate line and a data line to define a pixel area; a pixel electrode formed in the pixel area and connected to the thin film transistor; and a storage electrode including a first portion overlapping the data line between two adjacent gate lines. The storage electrode may also include a second portion connected to the first portion and enclosing an edge of the pixel area except for a region where the first portion is formed. The storage electrode may be branched between pixel electrodes respectively formed in two adjacent pixel areas.

A liquid crystal display device and a method of repairing bad pixels thereof, in which the bad pixels can be efficiently and easily repaired, includes a first insulating substrate, a gate wiring and a storage wiring arranged substantially parallel to each other in a first direction on the first insulating substrate, a data wiring intersecting the gate and storage wirings in an insulated manner and arranged substantially in a second direction, and a pixel electrode formed on a pixel area defined by the gate and data wirings. The storage wiring includes a horizontal portion arranged substantially in the first direction and at least a part of which does not overlap the pixel electrode, and a vertical portion branching off substantially in the second direction from the horizontal portion and overlapping the data wiring.

Liquid crystal display device and method of repairing bad pixels therein

A scan driver drives a display device having a plurality of gate lines transferring scan signals, and a plurality of source lines transferring data signals. The scan driver includes a shift register and a multiple signal applying unit. The shift register includes a plurality of cascade-connected stages, each stage having an output terminal electrically connected to a respective one of the plurality of gate lines. The multiple signal applying unit applies a sub scan signal and a main scan signal. The sub scan signal and the main scan signal sequentially activate each of the plurality of gate lines. Therefore, the scan lines receive the scan signal twice, so that the liquid crystal capacitors electrically connected to the gate lines receive the data voltage twice. As a result, even though the time for charging the liquid crystal capacitors may be reduced, the liquid crystal capacitors may be fully charged to enhance display quality.

Scan driver, display device having the same and method of driving a display device

A mother substrate for a display device includes a display cell, a test pad, an electrostatic preventing pattern and a connecting line. The display cell includes a pad and a signal line. The signal line is extended from the pad and is electrically connected to a pixel. The test pad is disposed out of the display cell and is electrically connected to the signal line of the display cell and receives a test signal. The electrostatic preventing pattern electrically connected to the test pad is disposed adjacent to the test pad and includes a plurality of edges. The electrostatic preventing pattern is formed from a metal pattern. The connecting line is extended from the electrostatic preventing pattern and is electrically connected to the pad of the display cell.

In a gate driving unit and a display apparatus, a first gate driving circuit is connected to a first end of a plurality of gate lines, a second gate driving circuit is connected to a second end of the gate lines, and they are substantially simultaneously turned on. The first and second gate driving circuits apply a first gate signal having a first pre-charging period and a first active period, which is adjacent to the first pre-charging period, to odd-numbered gate lines and apply a second gate signal having a second pre-charging period and a second active period, which is adjacent to the second pre-charging period, to even-numbered gate lines.
