The photosensitive member suppresses the occurrence of cracks during forming of the protective layer, has high durability, and is free from any image defects.

Electrophotographic photosensitive member and electrophotographic

An electrophotographic photosensitive member is formed by disposing a photosensitive layer and a protective layer in this order on an electroconductive support. The protective layer is formed from a resin obtained by polymerization of a curable acrylic monomer having at least three acrylic groups, i.e., acryloyl and/or methacryloyl groups. The protective layer not only shows a good durability against wearing but also can contain fine electroconductive particles therein with a good dispersibility because of the presence of the acrylic groups aiding the dispersion.

An image holding member rich in durability and suitably used as an electrophotographic photosensitive member or an electrostatic image-holding dielectric member is prepared by coating a support with a resinous layer formed by polymerization of a phosphazene polyene represented by the following formida: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 denotes an ethylenically unsaturated group, preferably an acrylic group represented by --R.sub.2 --OCO--C(R.sub.3)=CH.sub.2, wherein R.sub.2 denotes an alkylene group, arylene group, alkyl-substituted arylene group, alkylamide group or arylamide group, and R.sub.3 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The resinous layer may constitute a photosensitive layer, a dielectric layer, or a protective layer covering these layers.

Image holding member

An electrophotographic photosensitive member has an electroconductive support, a photosensitive layer, and a protection layer in named order. The protection layer contains a binder resin and a particulate electroconductive material. The particulate electroconductive material has been treated for adhesion of a siloxane compound represented by Formula (1) and subsequently is heat-treated at a temperature of not lower than 120.degree. C.

An image-bearing member suitable for carrying an electrostatic image and/or a toner image is formed by forming a surface layer on a substrate or a photosensitive layer. The surface layer comprises a polymerized and cured product of a photoionically polymerizable compound having two or more functional groups, and shows excellent mechanical and electrical resistance as well as excellent charge-retaining characteristic. As a result, the surface layer provides an image-bearing surface suitable for electrophotography. The surface layer may be a protective layer or a photoconductive layer when it constitutes a photosensitive member.

A process of producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member which can be used in many copying machines and printers is here disclosed, and this process comprises the step of spraying two or more kinds of charge generating materials on an electroconductive support by a coating apparatus in which each of independent spray devices is disposed for each of the charge generating materials, in order to form a photosensitive layer containing the two or more kinds of charge generating materials on the electroconductive support, whereby the electrophotographic photosensitive member is obtained in which the photosensitive layer is formed on the electroconductive support.

Process of producing-electrophotographic photosensitive member

A photosensitive member for electrophotography comprising: an electroconductive substrate and a photosensitive layer disposed thereon comprising an organic photoconductor is provided. the photosensitive layer contains at least, a compound represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 denotes a t-butyl or t-amyl group, and X.sub.2 denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms; and a compound represented by the following formula (II): ##STR2## wherein X.sub.3 and X.sub.4 respectively denote an alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms.
