A misfire detecting device for an engine is provided, which includes a processor configured to execute a cylinder operation controlling module to switch an engine operation mode from an all-cylinder operation to a reduced-cylinder operation in which operation of one or some of cylinders are suspended, when an execution condition of the reduced-cylinder operation is satisfied, a misfire detecting module to detect a possibility of misfire occurrence based on an angular speed variation of the engine, and a centrifugal damping part configured to reduce vibration caused by the engine. When a possible misfire state is detected by the misfire detecting module during the reduced-cylinder operation, the cylinder operation controlling module executes an operating-cylinder increase control in which the number of operating cylinders is increased. When the possible misfire state is continuously detected after the operating-cylinder increase control, the misfire detecting module detects the engine misfire.

Misfire detecting device for engine

A control apparatus of an engine including an intake valve, an exhaust valve, and a variable valve timing mechanism for varying open and close timings of at least one of the intake and exhaust valves, is provided. The control apparatus includes a processor configured to execute a valve controlling module for performing, via the variable valve timing mechanism, a valve overlap in which the intake and exhaust valves are both opened on intake stroke of the engine, and a temperature estimating module for estimating a temperature of exhaust gas at a given location in the exhaust system by estimating a temperature increase of the exhaust gas caused by afterburn and accounting for the temperature increase, the afterburn occurring due to fresh air blowing through a cylinder of the engine to an exhaust system during the valve overlap.

Control apparatus of engine

Provided is a thermostat monitor () comprising a thermostat open failure detecting part () for detecting an open failure of a thermostat when a condition is such that a radiator heat radiation amount () radiated from a radiator on a radiator-side cooling water channel is larger than a heater core heat radiation amount () radiated from a heater core on a heater core-side cooling water channel, and that a difference between the radiator heat radiation amount and the heater core heat radiation amount is equal to or more than a predetermined value A. Based on a temperature of engine cooling water detected by a temperature sensor positioned in the vicinity of an outlet of an in-engine cooling water channel, it is possible to detect the open failure of the thermostat relatively easily with certainty.

Thermostat monitor

A control apparatus of an engine including intake and exhaust valves and a variable valve timing mechanism for varying open and close timings is provided. The apparatus includes a processor configured to execute an increasing amount controlling module for performing a fuel amount increase control in which a fuel injection amount is increased to decrease an exhaust gas temperature, and a valve controlling module for controlling, via the variable valve timing mechanism, an overlapping period in which the intake and exhaust valves are both opened on intake stroke. When the increasing amount controlling module performs the increase control, based on an increase of a temperature of the exhaust gas in the increase control, the valve controlling module determines whether a protection for an exhaust system component is required, and if the protection is determined to be required, the valve controlling module shortens the overlapping period.
