Disclosed is an organic electroluminescence device having a longer drive life. The organic electroluminescence device includes a light emitting layer which contains a luminescent dye and a host material having a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic ring. The luminescence resulting from the hole transport layer adjacent to the light emitting layer is less than one-hundredth of the luminescence resulting from the luminescent dye.

Organic electroluminescence device

Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device having a longer drive life. Specifically disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device () comprising an organic material layer (), which is composed of a hole transporting layer (), a light-emitting layer () and an electron transporting layer (), between a pair of electrodes, namely a cathode () and an anode (). The light-emitting layer () (having a film thickness (dM) of 5-3000 nm) contains a luminescent dye and a host material. The first oxidation potential (ED+) of the luminescent dye is lower than the first oxidation potential (EH+) of the host material, while the first reduction potential (ED&#x2212;) of the luminescent dye is lower than the first reduction potential (EH&#x2212;) of the host material. The film thickness (dE: 5-3000 nm) of the electron transporting layer () and the film thickness (dH: 5-3000 nm) of the hole transporting layer () satisfy the following relation: dH&#x2266;dE.

Organic electroluminescence element

An organic electroluminescence element is comprised of a laminate of an anode, a light emitting layer made of an organic compound including phosphorescent materials, an electron transport layer made of an organic compound, and a cathode In the electroluminescence element, a hole blocking layer made of a specific aluminium chelate complex is laminated between the light emitting layer and the electron transport layer.

An organic EL element includes a light-permeable anode (2), an organic emitting layer (3), a cathode (5), and a light permeable substrate(1), wherein the organic EL element emits light at a predetermined region upon application of a current between the anode (2) and the cathode (5). The element further includes an electron injection layer (4) formed between the emitting layer (3) and the cathode (5) and having a pattern corresponding to the predetermined region to be displayed. Alternatively, the element further includes an electron obstruction layer (12) formed between the emitting layer (11) and the cathode (13) and having a pattern to restrict emission corresponding to the predetermined region not to be displayed. Alternatively, the element further includes a hole injection layer (18) formed between the anode (2) and the emitting layer (19) having a pattern corresponding to the predetermined region to be displayed. Alternatively, the element further includes a hole obstruction layer (24) formed between the anode (2) and the emitting layer (19) having a pattern to restrict emission corresponding to the predetermined region not to be displayed.

Organic electroluminescent element

An organic electroluminescence element having an anode, an organic layer comprising at least one organic light emitting layer, and a cathode, wherein a face of the anode to which the organic layer is laminated is polished to prevent the generation of a leakage current, and the resultant deterioration of the current-brightness characteristic and destruction of the element.

Organic electroluminescence element and method of making thereof

An organic electro-luminescent element is provided with a drying substance contained in an airtight container and spaced from the element in an internal space of the airtight container for absorbing moisture in the internal space. The drying substance comprises a solid compound which chemically absorbs the moisture and maintains its solid state even after absorbing the moisture.
