A method of encoding a coordinate interpolator that includes key data and a key header including information regarding encoding of the key data, the key data representing the position of a key frame on a time axis. The method includes, encoding the key header and encoding the key data according to the result of the encoding performed in the encoding the key header. The encoding of the key data includes performing quantization on the key data according to the quantization bit size and generating differential data by performing differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) on the result of the quantization according to a DPCM order. The encoding of the key data also includes performing a divide-and-divide (DND) on the differential data so that a difference between a maximum and minimum of the differential data can be minimized and performing entropy encoding on the result of the DND.

Apparatus for encoding and decoding key data and key value data of coordinate interpolator and recording medium containing bitstream into which coordinate interpolator is encoded

A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding key value data of a coordinate interpolator used in a three-dimensional graphic animation are provided. The apparatus for encoding key value data of a coordinate interpolator representing the position of each vertex of an object using coordinates of each of the vertices including x, y, and z components includes a quantizer, which quantizes a coordinate interpolator input thereinto with predetermined quantization bits, a DPCM processor, which performs a DPCM operation of a predetermined mode on each component of each vertex of the quantized coordinate interpolator and generates differential data based on the temporal variation of the coordinates of each of the vertices and differential data based on the spatial variation of the coordinates of each of the vertices.

Method and apparatus for encoding and decoding key value data of coordinate interpolator

An apparatus for encoding and decoding key data and key value data of a coordinate interpolator and a recording medium, on which a bitstream, into which a coordinate interpolator is encoded, is written, are provided. The bitstream includes key data encoding/decoding information, into which key data and information necessary to decode the key data are encoded, and key value data encoding/decoding information, into which key value data and information necessary to decode the key value data are encoded. The key data encoding/decoding information includes inverse DND operation information including the order of inverse DND indicating a predetermined number of cycles of inverse DND to be performed on differential data generated by entropy-decoding the bitstream in order to extend the range of the differential data.

An apparatus for encoding DPCMed differential data of key data includes a DND operator which performs on input differential data a predetermined number of times a DND operation, in which a divide operation is performed on the input differential data so as to divide differential data belonging to a positive number region into halves and so as to convert one half of the differential data belonging to an upper range than the other half into negative values, and either a divide-up operation or a divide-down operation is selectively performed on the results of the divide operation depending on the range of the results of the divide operation so as to reduce the range of differential data belonging to a negative number region or the positive number region, respectively, a shift-up operator which performs a shift-up operation on the results of the DND operation so as to transfer the differential data having been through the DND operation to either the positive or negative number region, a differential data selector which selectively outputs either the differential data having been through the DND operation or the differential data having been through the shift-up operation, and an entropy encoder which entropy-encodes the differential data selected by the differential data selector.

A method and an apparatus for encoding key value data of an orientation interpolator representing the rotation of an object in a keyframe image are provided. The method of encoding three-dimensional object data involves generating three-dimensional object data having a tree structure in which nodes are attached labels indicating their types; encoding nodes of the three-dimensional object data; and generating the three-dimensional object data whose nodes are encoded into a bitstream. The apparatus for encoding three-dimensional object data includes a tree structure generator which generates three-dimensional object data having a tree structure in which nodes are attached labels indicating their types; a merging order selector which merges the nodes of the three-dimensional object data by referring to their labels; a node encoder which encodes merged nodes; and a bitstream generator which generates the three-dimensional object data whose merged nodes are encoded into a bitstream. The method of decoding three-dimensional object data involves reading-continue flag information from a bitstream of encoded three-dimensional object data and decoding the continue flag information; decoding note type information of the bitstream; decoding an 'S' node if the note type information indicates that a current node is an 'S' node and decoding a PPM node if the note type information indicates that the current node is a PPM node; and restoring the three-dimensional object data whose nodes are encoded to a tree structure. The apparatus for decoding three-dimensional object data includes a bitstream reader which receives a bitstream of encoded three-dimensional object data; a node decoder which decodes the bitstream; and a tree structure restorer which restores decoded nodes to a tree structure.

Method and apparatus for encoding and decoding three-dimensional object data

An apparatus for coding keys of graphic animation data and a method thereof are provided. The coding apparatus for encoding key data corresponding to time variables among graphic animation comprises a quantizer which quantizes the key data and generates quantized data; a differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) processing unit which DPCM processes the quantized data, receives the DPCM processed data, and by repeatedly performing DPCM processing, selects and outputs DPCM data having the lowest dispersion among N-th order DPCM data generated in the DPCM processing; a polar value removing unit which reduces the range of data by removing a polar value in the DPCM data output form the DPCM processing unit; and an entropy encoder which removes the redundancy of binary bits in the data output from the polar value removing unit and generates a compressed and encoded binary bit stream. In the method, by selecting a code where data dispersion is the lowest according to the characteristic of key data to be coded, redundancy of data to be coded increases such that coding efficiency increases. Also, by removing polar values appearing after DPCM, the coding efficiency increases.

Coding and decoding apparatus of key data for graphic animation and method thereof

An encoding method and apparatus of deformation information of a 3-dimensional (3D) object are provided. The encoding method of deformation information of a 3-Dimensional (3D) object, in which information on vertices forming the shape of the 3D object is described by a key framing method for performing deformation of the 3D object, the encoding method includes: (a) extracting keys indicating positions of key frames on a time axis, key values indicating characteristics information of key frames, and relation information, by parsing node information of the 3D object; (b) generating vertex connectivity information from the related information; (c) generating differential values for each of the keys from which temporal data redundancy is to be removed, and key values from which spatiotemporal data redundancy is to be removed, based on the vertex connectivity information; (d) quantizing the differential values; and (e) removing redundancy among bits and generating compressed bit stream through entropy encoding.
