A system and method to control non-coherent pulsed light, the system including a lamp to produce non-coherent light energy in a pulsed mode, a current supply to provide energy to the system, and a switching module to control the spectral distribution and/or light intensity in the non-coherent pulsed light energy during a pulse of non-coherent light. The system may include a controller unit to control pulse parameters for a selected treatment, based on illumination data received from the light sensor. The system may include one or more changeable filters to modulate the pulses supplied to the lamp during a pulse.

Method and system for controlling non-coherent pulsed light

A method of NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) excitation of a sample having a magnetic moment, including, applying a longitudinal magnetic field to the sample; and changing the magnetic moment in a substantially continuous manner by moving an effective magnetic-field vector &ohgr; more than 90&deg;, wherein for all portions of the sample in which the moment is changed, the angular velocity of the effective field vector at at least one angle, 90&deg;&plus;&agr;, is different from the angular velocity at 90&deg;&minus;&agr;.

Frequency selective pulse

An open yoked magnetic apparatus for producing a substantially homogenous magnetic field. The apparatus includes an open ferromagnetic yoke, and two complementary permanent magnetic assemblies attached to opposing sides of the yoke. Each magnet assembly includes a ferromagnetic pole-piece and a first magnetic structure disposed between the pole-piece and the yoke, at least one annular ferromagnetic collimator concentric with said pole-piece and radially separated therefrom by a gap, and at least a second magnetic structure radially separated from the first magnetic structure by a gap and disposed between the at least one collimator and the yoke. The magnetic structures may be solid structures made from magnetic material or may be segmented or may include a plurality of magnetic blocks. A method for designing such an open yoked magnetic apparatus with improved properties is also disclosed.
