A rotating separator has a housing preventing separated liquid carryover. A plenum between the annular rotating separating filter element and the housing sidewall has one or more flow path separating guides minimizing the flow of separated liquid to the outlet. The flow path guides may include one or more fins and/or swirl flow dampers and/or a configured surface.

An internal combustion engine crankcase ventilation rotating coalescer includes an annual rotating coalescing filter element, an inlet port supplying blow by gas from the crankcase to the hollow interior of the annular rotating coalescing filter element, and an outlet port delivering clean separated, air from the exterior of the rotating element. The direction of flow by gas inside-out, radially, outwardly from the hollow interior to the exterior.

A closed crankcase ventilation system for an internal combustion engine includes a return duct with a variably controlled air-oil coalescer. In a turbocharger version, cleaned separated air is provided to the turbocharger inlet, and the coalescer is variably controlled according to a given condition of the turbocharger and/or the engine and/or the coalescer.

An internal combustion engine crankcase ventilation rotating coalescer includes an annular rotating coalescing filter element, an inlet port supplying blowby gas from the crankcase to the hollow interior of the annular rotating coalescing filter element, and an outlet port delivering cleaned separated air from the exterior of the rotating element. The direction of blowby gas is inside-out, radially outwardly from the hollow interior to the exterior.

According to one representative embodiment, an aspirator for cooling exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine includes a nozzle section, an expansion section, and an air entrainment section. The nozzle section is communicable in exhaust receiving communication with the internal combustion engine. The nozzle section includes a plurality of nozzles through which an exhaust gas stream is flowable. The expansion section is communicable in exhaust receiving communication with the plurality of nozzles. The air entrainment section is communicable in air supplying communication with the expansion section. The air is mixable with the exhaust gas within the expansion section.

An inertial gas-liquid impactor separator includes an inertial impactor collector having an impactor surface extending diagonally relative to axially accelerated flow, which surface is preferably a cone having a leading tip axially facing and axially aligned with the acceleration nozzle. In a further aspect, first and second inertial impactor collectors are provided in series, with an orifice in the first inertial impactor collector providing a nozzle for the second inertial impactor collector. Improved performance is provided by reducing the extent of the stagnation region to change from a narrow band particle size range to a wider band range and to shift cut-off size. An inertial gas-liquid impactor separator has a perforated layer of coalescence media having at least one aperture through which the gas-liquid stream flows. Improved performance is provided by increased penetration of the flow into the media patch and thereby enhancing particle capture by interception, impaction and diffusion.
