Low-pH, aqueous skin care composition, comprising: a) about 0.1% to about 10% of a hydroxycinnamic acid (HCA); b) about 0.1% to about 10% of a polar emollient; c) from about 1.5% to less than 20% of a co-solvent with a Hansen solubility parameter distance of less than 15 from the—hydroxycinnamic acid (HCA); and d) water, wherein the pH of the composition is about 5.0 or less, and wherein the composition meets at least one of the following conditions (i)-(iii): (i) the composition further contains from about 0.1% to about 10% of a vitamin Bcompound; (ii) the weight ratio between HCA and the polar emollient is from about 1:1 to about 1:10; and (iii) the composition further contains from about 0.1% to about 5% of a sensory improving ingredient selected from the group consisting of: sugar alcohols, sugar-based emulsifiers, modified sugar derivatives, and mixtures thereof.

Skin care composition

A dissolvable solid article, comprising: water soluble polymer; a surfactant; at least one selected from diaminocarboxylic acid chelants and salts thereof; at least one selected from aromatic carboxylic acids and salts thereof; a phenolic derivative; at least one selected from α, β-unsaturated Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids, salts, and derivatives thereof; at least one selected from non-aromatic organic alpha hydroxy acids and salts thereof; wherein the dissolvable solid article has a pH of from about 3 to about 5.5 when dissolved with 20 parts water to 1 part of the dissolvable solid article. The present invention provides dissolvable solid articles which provide preservative efficacy even after dissolution of the articles, while controlling the concentrations of preservative ingredients in the solid articles.

The composition of the present invention provides improved deposition of the solid organic compound and/or reduced crystallization of the solid organic compound in the composition.

Personal care composition comprising water insoluble solid organic compound

Disclosed is a dissolvable solid article, comprising by weight of the article: from about 10% to about 50% of a water soluble polymer; from about 20% to about 80% of a surfactant; from about 0.5% to about 2% of diaminocarboxylic acid chelants and salts thereof having an average molecular weight in acid form of from about 250 to about 450 daltons and having a weighted log P value at pH 4 of from about &#x2212;12 to about &#x2212;7; from about 0.1% to about 6% of an aromatic carboxylic acid and salts thereof having an average molecular weight in acid form of from about 100 to about 400 daltons and having a weighted log P value at pH 4 of from about &#x2212;2 to about 4; from about 0.1% to about 18% of an non-aromatic organic alpha hydroxy acid and salts thereof; wherein the dissolvable solid article has a pH of from about 3 to about 5.1 when dissolved with 30 parts water to 1 part of the dissolvable solid article. The present invention provides dissolvable solid articles which provide anti-bacterial benefit even after dissolution of the articles, while controlling the concentration of anti-bacterial active ingredients in the solid articles.

A cosmetic composition is provided, the composition comprising a safe and effective amount of a skin care active with A log P less than &#x2212;2.0, a safe and effective amount of a fatty alcohol; and a safe and effective amount of a glyceryl ester. The combination of fatty alcohol and glyceryl esters surprisingly enhances penetration of skin care actives with low A log P values into skin.

Cosmetic compositions

A cosmetic composition suitable for topical application is provided. The cosmetic composition comprises: glycerin; a lipid bilayer structurant with a glyceryl headgroup; a penetration enhancer; and a skin care active. The penetration enhancer increases the amount of active that enters skin when the composition is topically applied, while the glycerin and lipid bilayer structurant with glyceryl headgroup work together with lipid bilayers of the skin to impede progress of active through the skin.

Cosmetic compositions and methods providing enhanced penetration of skin care actives

A cosmetic composition suitable for topical application, for example, is provided. In some examples, the cosmetic composition may include bisabolol, undecylenoyl phenylalanine and/or hexyldecanol, and a material selected from the group consisting of ethyl palmitate, stearyl alcohol, bis (2-ethylhexyl) adipate, bis (2-ethylhexyl) maleate, 5-pentadecanol, 1-stearoyl-rac-glycerol, bis (2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, and mixtures thereof. A method of reducing the synthesis of melanin by using the cosmetic compositions is also disclosed herein.
