Described herein are embodiments of squarylium compounds for use as filters in light-emitting and/or display devices. One problem of known quarylium dyes is that strong nucleophiles can attack the electron-deficient cyclobutene ring which can lead to a loss of the dye's colour. Another potential drawback with squaraine dyes can be their tendency to form aggregates, which can lead to a substantial broadening of their absorption bands. Use of the present compounds in filters address these problems. The squarylium compounds of the present invention have the following formulas: 

Squarylium compounds for use in display devices

Described herein are liquid crystal compositions that can allow for the adjustment of their refractive indices by the application of an electric field. Also described herein are liquid crystal mixtures containing these compositions. In addition, selectively dimmable reverse-mode polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) elements and devices using these compositions are also described, which are transparent when no or low voltage is applied and opaque when a voltage or high voltage is applied.

Liquid crystal compositions, mixtures, elements, and dimmable devices

Described herein is a crosslinked graphene and biopolymer (e.g. lignin) based composite membrane that provides selective resistance for solutes while providing water permeability. The membrane may include optional additional functional additives in a crosslinked material matrix that provides enhanced salt separation from water. Methods for making such membranes, and methods of using the membranes for dehydrating or removing solutes from water are also described.

Described herein are functionalized graphene compositions that have gas, fluid, and/or vapor resistant properties. Also described are barrier elements based on the aforementioned compositions. Also described is a barrier device that incorporates the barrier element and further comprises a substrate and a protective coating, encompassing the barrier element.

The present disclosure relates to an emissive construct, which can be used in various OLED applications, for example, top-emission white organic light-emitting diodes. The emissive construct can include an optional second fluorescent emissive layer having an emitter with a second T1, a first fluorescent emissive layer having an emitter with a first T1, the first T1 being greater than the second T1 value, a hole-blocking layer, and a phosphorescent emissive layer.

Top-emitting white organic light-emitting diodes having improved efficiency and stability

The present disclosure relates to an emissive construct, which can be used in various OLED applications, for example, top-emission white organic light-emitting diodes. The emissive construct includes a fluorescent emissive layer, a partial hole-blocking layer, and a phosphorescent emissive. A recombination zone is shared between the fluorescent emissive layer and the phosphorescent emissive layer, such that the thickness of the partial hole-blocking layer is less than about one-third of the thickness of the recombination zone.
