A method for the synthesis of nano-products, such as atomic titanium oxide wires. The method allows wires of anatase titanium oxide wires to be formed in a range of tunable diameters and aspect ratios in the nanometer and subnanometer size scales. The method also allows the titanium wires to be capped by oleic acid to enhance dispersing and solubility. The method allows the titanium wires to be surface doped with nitrogen species to enhance stability and functionality such as enhanced absorption in the visible wavelength region, which is useful for photodegradation of organic wastes in water by sunlight.

Method for synthesising a nano-product

The present disclosure includes a method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of &#x3b3;-FeOnanoparticles. The method includes grinding an iron (II) hydrated salt, an iron (III) hydrated salt, an inorganic salt, and alkali hydroxide in a grinding or milling machine. The inorganic salt may be a salt matrix that prevents growth and aggregation of the synthesized nanoparticles. The aqueous dispersion of &#x3b3;-FeOnanoparticles may optionally be hydrothermally treated to become an aqueous dispersion of &#x3b1;-FeOnanoparticles. Also disclosed is a method for preparing an mixture of &#x3b1;-FeOnanoparticles and &#x3b3;-FeOnanoparticles, in which at least an iron (III) hydrated salt, an inorganic salt, and alkali hydroxide are ground in a grinding or milling machine. Uses for the nanoparticles include: a magnetic resonance image contrast agent, a color print ink, an artificial tanning pigment, a photocatalyst for degradation of organic dye, a red pigment, an adsorbent for waste water treatment, a catalyst support, and a catalyst.

Solid-state synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles

A technique has been developed to fabricate micro- or nanopumps based on porous alumina thin films. The main body of the nanopump consists of a porous alumina thin film (containing nano-sized channels of about 40-300 nm in diameter) with conductive surfaces (e.g. Au coating layers) on both sides of the film. Through the fabrication of nanochannels in (the alumina films) and the subsequent annealing and surface activation processes, high-efficiency micro- or nanopumps can be made. The nanofluidic flow through the nanochannels of the alumina thin films is driven by an electric field with no moving parts. The flow rate (up to 50 millilitres/(min&#xb7;cm)) of water through the alumina thin film can be continuously tuned through the intensity of the electric field, i.e., the DC electric potential applied across the nanochannels.

Membrane nanopumps based on porous alumina thin films, membranes therefor and a method of fabricating such membranes

There is described an electrorheological fluid comprising coated nanoparticle suspended in an electrically insulated hydrophobic liquid. The core particles consist of TiOor metal salts of the form M1M2TiO(CO)where M1 is selected from the group consisting of Ba, Sr and Ca and wherein M2 is selected from the group consisting of Rb, Li, Na and K. The particle shell is made of highly polar molecules selected from the group consisting of thiourea and urea.

Fluid suspensions with electrorheological effect

There is described an electrorheological fluid comprising particles of a composite material suspended in an electrically insulating hydrophobic liquid. The composite particles are metal salts of the form MMTiO(CO)where Mis selected from the group consisting of Ba, Sr and Ca and wherein Mis selected from the group consisting of Rb, Li, Na and K, and the composite particles further include a promoter selected from the group consisting of urea, butyramide and acetamide.
