Optical disc drive and tray driving device thereof

An optical disc drive including a chassis, a circuit board and a traverse is provided. The traverse includes a carrier, a pick-up head module, a spindle motor module and a flexible flat cable. The carrier has an opening. The pick-up head module is movably disposed in the opening. The spindle motor module disposed on the carrier is located at one side of the pick-up head module. The flexible flat cable disposed in the opening has two connection ends respectively connected to the pick-up head module and the circuit board. The pick-up head module located at a first position enables the flexible flat cable to have a bending portion protruding towards a direction opposite to the position of the spindle motor module. The pick-up head module located at a second position extends the bending portion. The first position is closer to the spindle motor module than the second position is.

A spindle motor includes a base plate, a stator, and a rotor. The base plate has a plurality of air-guiding holes. The stator includes a bearing portion and a plurality of coil portions. The bearing portion is fixed on the base plate. The coil portions are connected to and surrounded the bearing portion, and are disposed above the air-guiding holes. The rotor is rotatably mounted to the bearing portion and disposed adjacent the coil portions.

The signal transmitting apparatus includes a conductor, a first and a second circuit boards, and a signal transmitting medium that is electrically interconnected between the first circuit board and the second circuit board. The signal transmitting medium includes a ground wire and an insulating layer wrapping the ground wire, wherein at least an end portion of the ground wire is not wrapped by the insulating layer and is bent to overlap the insulating layer and electrically connected to the conductor via a conductive adhesive material so as to conduct the electrostatic charges accumulated in the signal transmitting medium to the conductor as a ground.

Signal transmitting apparatus using flexible flat cable for an optical disc drive

A flexible printed circuit for electrically connecting a disk tray to a chassis of an optical disk drive has a base layer, a copper layer, and a cover layer. The copper layer is attached to the base layer by a first adhesive layer, and has a plurality of separate electrical wires and a ground area. The cover layer has a cutout area corresponding to the ground area, and is attached to the copper layer by a second adhesive layer. A third adhesive layer is electrically conductive and used for attaching the cover layer to the chassis of the optical disk drive. Wherein the third adhesive layer is electrically connected to the ground area of the copper layer through the cutout area, the static charges accumulated on the copper layer will be discharged to the chassis.

Flexible printed circuit for optical disk drive

An optical pickup module reading data along a track-seeking path is provided. The optical pickup module comprises a base, a first fastening component, a first shaft and an optical pickup head. The base has a fastening plate and the fastening plate has a sliding hole, wherein an included angle is formed between the extension direction of the sliding hole and the track-seeking path. Since the included angle is formed between the extension direction of the sliding hole and the track-seeking path, one end of the first shaft can be easily inserted into the sliding hole of the fastening plate along the extension direction of the sliding hole. Then, another end of the first shaft is assembled with the first fastening component so that the first shaft is parallel to the track-seeking path. At the same time, one end of the first shaft tightly fits to the fastening plate.

Optical pickup module

This invention discloses a lock mechanism. The lock mechanism comprises a tray, a locking element, a solenoid, a linked apparatus, a first arm and a boss. The locking element has a protrusion and is rotably fixed on the tray. The solenoid is fixed on the tray and supplies a magnetic force to an active block. The linked apparatus is connected with the active block of the solenoid and is rotably fixed on the tray to push the locking element. The first arm is rotably fixed on the tray to push the linked apparatus and has a protruding rib to push against the protrusion of the locking element. The boss cooperates with the locking element when the tray is loaded. According to this mechanism, the sounds resulted from the locking element and the first arm are happened at the same time.

Lock mechanism

A locking mechanism for a disk reading device has a body, and an absorber provided on the body for absorbing impact energy. The absorber can be implemented in the form of an elastic material on the body of the locking mechanism, or by providing one or more hollowed regions on the body of the locking mechanism, or by providing resilient members that function to further absorb the impact energy.

Collapsible locking mechanism for an optical disk reading device

A disk drive has a tray with a chassis secured to the tray, the tray and the chassis being housed inside a housing. The disk drive includes a slide mechanism that is positioned between the chassis and the tray, and which is movable independently from the chassis. The disk drive also includes a locking and ejection mechanism that includes a first part that is secured to the chassis and a second part that is secured to the slide mechanism. The tray is locked inside the housing when the first part and second part engage each other, and the tray is ejected from the housing when engagement between the first part and second part is released.

A clamping device with variable clamping force of an optical disk drive is disclosed. The main structure consists of a base, a resilient body with restoring property, an annulus magnet (or an annulus yoke) which can exert attraction force to a turntable for clamping disk, and a linking member which can change height of the annulus magnet (or the annulus yoke) relative to base according to the centrifugal force induced by variation of rotational speed of the optical disk drive. The centrifugal force is proportional to square of angular velocity such that the gap between the annulus magnet and the annulus yoke is accordingly adjustable. Variable clamping force is thus achieved by variation of the gap.

A guide rail assembly for use with a disk drive has a first rail that has a raised ridge with a wavy upper edge and a wavy lower edge. The assembly also has a second rail having a channel defined therein, with the channel having a wavy upper wall and a wavy lower wall. The raised ridge of the first rail is positioned for reciprocating movement inside the channel of the second rail.
