A data driver for an electrophoretic display (EPD) includes multiple driver sub-circuits. Each of the driver sub-circuits includes first and second latches, first and second capacitors, a multiplexer and a comparator. The first and second latches respectively provide updated latch image data and current latch image data in response to original image data. When the updated and current latch image data correspond to different levels, the comparator controls the multiplexer in a first period to selectively couple one of the first and second capacitors to a driver end, so as to recycle charges at pixels, and controls the multiplexer in a second period to selectively couple the other of the first and second capacitors to the driver end to pre-charge the pixels with the charges.

A method for mapping an input grayscale into an output luminance includes selecting a first reference grayscale, a first reference luminance, a second reference grayscale and a second reference luminance according to an input grayscale, generating a middle reference grayscale and a middle luminance, replacing a value of the first or second reference grayscale by a value of the middle reference grayscale, and replacing a value of the first or second reference luminance by a value of the middle luminance according to the middle reference grayscale and the input grayscale, and generating an output luminance by computing a linear transformation equation.

Method and device for mapping input grayscales into output luminance

An apparatus for driving a display includes a shift register, a first latch unit, a second latch unit, a data comparison unit and a level select unit. The shift register generates multiple latch signals according to a sync signal. The first latch unit latches a data signal in response to the latch signals to obtain multiple first data corresponding to multiple channels. The second latch unit is coupled to the first latch unit and latches the first data of the channels as multiple second data in response to a latch data signal. The data comparison unit responds to the latch data signal to respectively compare the first data and the second data corresponding to the same channel to output multiple third data corresponding to the channels. The level select unit selects multiple voltage levels corresponding to the channels according to the third data.
