A position detection method performed using a capacitive touch sensor with line electrodes two-dimensionally arranged. The method includes: acquiring first two-dimensional data indicating a first distribution of detection values of capacitance on the touch sensor; recognizing that a foreign object is present in an area on the touch sensor based on the first two-dimensional data; in response to the recognizing that the foreign object is present in the area on the touch sensor based on the first two-dimensional data, using a first threshold that is lower than a second threshold for detecting a first touch position or touch area inside of the area on the touch sensor in which the foreign object is present; and detecting the first touch position or touch area inside of the area on the touch sensor in which the foreign object is present based on the first two-dimensional data and the first threshold.

Disclosed herein is a method executed by a device that is configured to be able to detect a pointed position of a stylus on an operation plane being superimposed on a displaying part. The method includes receiving feedback information relating to a display position of a predetermined pattern on the displaying part from a host processor, updating at least some of plural position calibration values stored in a correction table that stores therein the position calibration value for each of plural positions arranged on the operation plane, on a basis of the received feedback information, detecting a tentative pointed position of the stylus, reading the position calibration value that corresponds to the tentative pointed position from the correction table and deriving an output position by correcting the tentative pointed position on a basis of the position calibration value, and reporting the output position to the host processor.

A touch detecting method includes determining a size of a first touch surface area in which each of first capacitances exceeds a first threshold value, and determining that a detected indicator is a stylus or a finger based on a size of the first touch surface area. In response to determining that the detected indicator is the stylus, obtaining second capacitances by processing the first capacitances, and deriving coordinates indicating a stylus position based on a second touch surface area in which each of the second capacitances exceeds a second threshold value larger than the first threshold value. In response to determining that the detected indicator is the finger, deriving coordinates indicating a finger position based on a third touch surface area in which in which each of the first capacitances exceeds a third threshold value larger than the first threshold value.

A sensor system, which detects a stylus and is provided in an electronic apparatus, includes a first integrated circuit, a second integrated circuit, and an integrated circuit connection line that couples the first integrated circuit and the second integrated circuit to each other. The first integrated circuit is connected to a first sensor electrode group, and detects a position of the stylus on a panel face of a first housing. The second integrated circuit is connected to a second sensor electrode group, and detects a position of the stylus on a panel face of a second housing. When the first integrated circuit detects a presence of the stylus, a notification indicative of the detection is issued to the second integrated circuit through the integrated circuit connection line such that transmission of an uplink signal through the second sensor electrode group by the second integrated circuit is stopped.

Sensor system

An interface device includes an on-panel pad and a sensor controller. The interface device is used to perform an input to an electronic device in response to an operation by a user on a capacitive touch panel display of the electronic device. The on-panel pad causes sensor electrodes included in the touch panel display to generate a two-dimensional pattern of capacitance while the on-panel pad is on the touch panel display. When the two-dimensional pattern generated while the on-panel pad is on the touch panel display has been detected, the sensor controller generates or outputs data including operation information in response to a change in capacitance in a region that is associated with the two-dimensional pattern and that receives an operation of the on-panel pad, the operation information indicating an operation state of the on-panel pad.

A coordinate detection method includes detecting coordinates corresponding to a position of a pen tip electrode of a pen by detecting distribution of signal levels in a plane of a touch surface through use of a plurality of linear electrodes disposed in the plane of the touch surface; detecting tilt data indicating a tilt of the pen; and acquiring a correction amount corresponding to a combination of the coordinates and the tilt data by referencing a correction table defining a correspondence between correction amounts and combinations of coordinates and tilt data.

Coordinate detection method

A position detection circuit and position detection method are provided to enable more flexible position detection even if an object is present above a touch sensor. The position detection circuit is connected to a capacitive touch sensor formed with a plurality of line electrodes that are two-dimensionally arranged. At least one memory device stores processor-readable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor device, cause the position detection circuit to: recognize an electrically conductive object located above a touch sensor based on two-dimensional data indicating detection values regarding capacitance, and detect a touch position or touch area on the touch sensor based on the two-dimensional data using different touch detection conditions for an outside and an inside of an area where the object is present.

A method performed by a system is provided, wherein the system includes a touch IC executing touch detection and an external processor, which is different from the touch IC and which may include a touch IC support firmware. The system includes a sensor electrode group connected to the touch IC; and a first bus connecting the touch IC with the external processor. The touch IC generates frame data indicative of a detection level of each of two-dimensional positions in the sensor electrode group, and supplies the frame data to the external processor via the first bus. The external processor feeds determination data resulting from performing predetermined processing on the frame data back to the touch IC, and the touch IC performs an operation based on the determination data. Thus, the touch IC can utilize the processing results of the external processor.

A method performed by an integrated circuit includes determining that a first touch is detected; in response to the determining that the first touch is detected, determining whether a second touch is detected; in response to the determining that the second touch is not detected, determining whether a third touch is detected; in response to determining that the third touch is not detected, determining an event corresponding to a single tap operation is to be output; in response to the determining that the third touch is detected, determining whether a fourth touch is detected; and in response to the determining that the fourth touch is not detected, determining an event corresponding to a double tap operation is to be output.
