First document/image data is printed onto a sequence of sheets that includes sheets of a given size, and sheet(s) of a size that in at least one dimension is larger than the sheets of the given size. At the same time the first document/image data is being printed, second document/image data, i.e., foldout data, is printed onto the outer margin, i.e., a foldout portion, of the sheet(s) of the larger size. The larger-size, foldout sheet(s) is then folded so as to be creased near its overlap with the given-size sheets, and is collated into the sequence of the given-size sheets to form a bundle that is then bound. Thereafter trimming to size the non-bound edge(s) of the bundle slices away the crease in the foldout sheet, leaving the foldout cut-away as an insert tucked into the booklet.

A sheet collecting device includes a tray on which sheets are placed, a sheet discharging roller for transferring sheets to the tray, an abutment regulating device for regulating a leading end and a trailing end of the sheets on the stacking tray in a conveying direction, and an aligning device for aligning the sheets relative to the abutment regulating device. The stacking tray includes a tray base supported by an apparatus frame and a plate member disposed on the tray base for placing and supporting at least some of the sheets. The plate member is supported on a top surface of the tray base so as to be movable toward an abutment regulating member. A biasing device is provided between the plate member and the tray base to bias the plate member toward the abutment regulating member.

A bookmaking apparatus executes sheet bundle stacking and image forming operations while melting adhesive at start up. A temperature control device controls a heating device to heat an adhesive in the container to a predetermined melting temperature when the apparatus power is turned on. A sheet conveyance device conveys and stack sheets sequentially from a conveyance path to the stacking tray while the temperature control device melts the adhesive.

A sheet discharge apparatus includes a sheet storage tray for receiving a sheet; a discharge device for discharging the sheet transported from a processing apparatus to the sheet storage tray; a reference member for aligning an edge of the sheet on the sheet storage tray; a transport device for transporting the discharge device between a first position for the discharge device to discharge the sheet to the sheet storage tray and a second position for the discharge device to align the sheet discharged on the tray against the reference member; and a control device for controlling an operation of the discharge device.

Sheet discharge apparatus, sheet finishing apparatus and image forming apparatus equipped with the same

A sheet receiving apparatus includes a sheet placing surface inclined such that the sheet is placed toward an upstream side of an ejecting direction of a sheet ejecting device, a sheet pressing device for pressing the sheet toward the second sheet placing surface, a driving device connected to the sheet pressing device for retreating the sheet pressing device from the sheet placing surface every time the sheet is ejected and moving the sheet pressing device back to the sheet placing surface, and a sheet detecting device located at the upstream side of the ejecting device for detecting the sheet and actuating the driving device. The sheet can be properly stacked and placed on the sheet placing surface.

Sheet receiving apparatus

A sheet post-handling device made compact by incorporating a stapling unit within a first side frame and a sheet transferring system in a second side frame. A simple mechanism formed of only one driving motor and a transmission means with sheet transmission rollers and a timing gear wheel operated with exquisite timing enables the sheet transferring system to be rationally assembled within the second side frame. With the sheet transferring system, a sheet fed from an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine is transferred in the forward direction, and then, sent back onto a processing tray in the reverse direction. A plurality of sheets sent onto and stacked on the processing tray are stapled, and thereafter, sent out in the forward direction. The stapling unit is movably mounted on the first side frame to facilitate fitting and removal of the staple cartridge into and from the stapling unit and maintenance of the device.

Sheet post-handling device

A tray member incorporated in a tray device is movable vertically in parallel in accordance with the thickness of sheets fed from a sheet handling system, so as to easily attach the tray device to the sheet handling system such as an image forming device, copying machine, printer and sheet post-processing apparatus for automatically stapling sheets. A driving mechanism for vertically moving the tray member is simple in structure, so that it can be incorporated compactly within the tray member. A low-power driving mechanism suffices for vertically moving only the tray member, so that the driving mechanism can be efficiently operated even with small power. The tray device has all the component elements including the driving mechanism built-in, so as to impose little structural restrictions on the sheet handling system to which the tray device is united.
