A printing apparatus includes: a printer head that prints, in accordance with a movement of the printing apparatus by a user within a printing region of a printing medium, a print-target image on the printing medium; a plurality of sensors each capable of sensing a displacement of the printing apparatus; and a processor that determines, based on the displacement sensed by the sensor, a position of the printing apparatus relative to the printing region, and switches, among the plurality of sensors, a sensing state of a sensor that is sensing the displacement and a sensing state of a sensor that is not sensing the displacement, in accordance with the determined position of the printing apparatus.

An image pickup device includes an image acquiring unit, calculating unit, memory controlling unit, first judging unit and notification unit. The calculating unit calculates a degree of similarity between information of a specific subject contained in the image acquired by the acquiring unit and identification information of the specific subject registered in a registering unit. The memory controlling unit controls a memory unit to store the calculated degree of similarity such that the degree of similarity is associated with date/time information. The first judging unit judges whether the calculated degree of similarity is relatively low compared with predetermined number of other degrees of similarity based on a chronological change of the degrees of similarity. The notification unit notifies that the identification information registered in the registering unit is to be renewed when judged, by the first judging unit, that the calculated degree of similarity is relatively low.

The wafer mapping system has an access port for transferring a wafer in and out and detects an accommodated wafer for a cassette in which slots for accommodating and holding inserted wafers are disposed in tiers. The wafer mapping system includes (1) a receiver that is fixed to a member facing the access port for receiving elements arranged serially along a height direction of the cassette, and (2) a transmitter that is disposed movable in an up and down direction of the cassette and transmits a signal toward a wafer accommodated in each of the slots of the cassette. The receiver receives a signal from the transmitter, and thereby the presence or absence of a wafer and a state of a wafer accommodated in each of the slots of the cassette are detected. Thereby, with a simple system configuration, an accommodation state of the wafer can be accurately detected.

An electronic device maintains data utilizing a ferroelectric memory, not requiring a backup power source voltage. Data such as schedule data and telephone number data is stored in a ferroelectric RAM which switches between a dynamic mode and a nonvolatile mode. When a clock mode is designated by a 'CLK' key, a memory control circuit causes the ferroelectric RAM to be switched to the nonvolatile mode to maintain the data stored therein. When a schedule mode or a telephone mode is designated by means of a 'Sch' key or a 'Tel' key, the ferroelectric RAM is switched to the nonvolatile mode to write/read data therein/therefrom. When it is detected that a battery voltage is lowered or the battery is removed from the electronic device, the ferroelectric RAM is switched to the nonvolatile mode to protect the stored data.

A breathing apparatus includes: a vessel member having a mouth piece and internal influx chamber; a tubular communication member having opposite ends connected respectively to the intake and outgo ports of the vessel member in such a manner that the vessel member and the communication member define a circular passage for a respirable gas; an oxygen-supplying mechanism for supplying the circular passage with the respirable gas; a pair of check valves, disposed respectively at the intake and outgo ports of the vessel member, for limiting the flow of the respirable gas in the circular passage to a single direction so that, when the person breathes into the influx chamber, the respirable gas in the influx chamber is introduced into the communication member through the outgo port and, when the person inhales through the mouth piece, the respirable gas in the communication member is recycled into the influx chamber through the intake port; and an outlet port for discharging excess respirable gas out of the circular passage. The communication member includes: an inflatable member for receiving the respirable gas upon the person's exhaling, and for releasing the respirable gas to the influx chamber upon the person's inhaling; and carbon dioxide-removing mechanism for removing carbon dioxide from the respirable gas passing through the communication member.
