In connection with an intermediate anchoring of a manipulation cable connecting between a manipulation side and an actuation side of an automobile transmission mechanism, an intermediate anchoring bracket of the manipulation cable is provide integral with the starter . Specifically, a front bracket of the starter , which is attached to a transmission block with a high positional accuracy according to an original purpose of improving engagement between a ring gear and a pinion , and the anchoring bracket defining the intermediate anchoring point position of the manipulation cable are formed integral. By merely attaching the starter to the transmission mechanism block with a small number of parts, an accurate positioning of the anchoring bracket with respect to an actuation point is realized, thereby, a positional accuracy between the intermediate anchoring point position and the actuation point can be improved.

Between a relay terminal of a direct current motor and a contact terminal of an electromagnetic switch, there is provided a fuse which is melted to cut off an electric current upon reaching a predetermined temperature. By properly setting the predetermined temperature at which the fuse melts, it is possible to make the fuse heated to a high temperature and melted in a relatively short time to cut off the electric current in the event of, for example, a continuous operative condition caused due to such a failure as fusion adhesion of a movable contact point with a B-terminal and an M-terminal or fusion adhesion of a contact point mechanism outside a starter, or an overcurrent supply condition caused upon a rotor being locked.

A starter motor has a rotating armature with a rotating shaft on which a groove is formed, a rear bracket, and a cylindrical-shape yoke connected to a front bracket which supports a pinion shaft. A holder washer member is inserted rotatively in the groove and limits movement in the axial direction of the rotating armature. A holder plate member is provided with a brush holder member. The holder washer member is sandwiched in an axial direction between a step portion of the rear bracket and an inner peripheral portion of the holder plate member. An outer peripheral edge portion of the holder plate member is sandwiched between an outer peripheral edge portion of the rear bracket and a step portion of the yoke. As a result, the rear bracket is fixed by a through-bolt to the front bracket. In the starter motor structure the holder plate member can be fixed to the rear bracket without using a fixing component such as a screw.

In a permanent magnet field starter motor, a ring shaped enlarged portion is formed at an end of a yoke and has an inner diameter Da which is larger than an inner diameter of the yoke. The inner diameter Da of the enlarged portion is at least as large as an outer diameter Db of a brush member holder plate which is inserted to an inner side of the enlarged portion, so that the radial position between the yoke and the brush member holder plate is directly aligned. A cut-out groove is formed on the yoke for inserting a bush member. The bush member is inserted into the cut-out groove, so that a thrust direction position of an outside portion lead wire, a lead terminal, and a lead wire is determined. A projection formed on the brush member holder plate has a width Wb which is at least as large as the width Wa of the cut-out groove. By inserting projection into the cut-out groove, the circumferential position between the yoke and the brush member holder plate is aligned.

A starter comprising: a shift lever for engaging and disengaging a pinion and a ring gear of an engine; a magnetic switch for actuating the shift lever; a motor for driving the pinion; a front case having an open end to which the magnetic switch and the motor are mounted substantially in the same direction, the pinion being enclosed in the front case; a seal portion provided in the vicinity of the open end of the front case so as to seal a gap which communicates between the inside and the outside of the front case; the seal portion including a taper face and an elastic material, the taper face having an axis of taper substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the motor, the elastic material being fitted onto the taper face so as to be disposed between the magnetic switch and the motor and so as to be urged in the direction along which a width of the taper face becomes narrower.

A plurality of insulator-coated coils wound in slots of a magnetic core in multiple layers have end portions including at least contact portions without insulator coatings and connected to risers of a commutator, and adjacent portions next to the contact portions but out of the risers. A stepped portion is formed in at least one of the adjacent portion of an upper coil and the adjacent portion of a lower coil of the insulator-coated coils wound in multiple layers at a location where the upper coil and the lower coil face each other in crossing relation. A sufficient gap distance between the upper and lower coils is ensured at the location where the coils cross each other, and the productivity of revolving armatures is improved.

A central conductor portion of a coil is formed with a potbelly-shaped cross-sectional form and a flat-shaped face of an insulated coating film of the potbelly-shaped cross-sectional form coil is made thinner than an arc-shaped face of the insulated coating film of the potbelly-shaped cross-sectional form coil. An insulated coating wire having a circular-shaped cross-sectional form is formed to a coil having a potbelly-shaped cross-sectional form by rolling process at a normal temperature. A dead space in a slot is lessened and the magnetic resistance of a magnetic core is decreased, thereby a small size and a high output electric motor can be obtained. A method of forming a rotary armature coil having a high space factor in the slot can be attained.

In a pinion shift device for a starter of the type employing a semicircular ring-shaped shift plate, the device is constructed such that the shift plate is easily assembled to a shift lever to be suitable for automatization, slide contact portions between the clutch body and the shift plate and/or between the shift flange and the shift plate are less subjected to overflow or exhaustion of grease and give rise to a smaller extent of wear, and thus service life of the device is prolonged. A semicircular ring-shaped portion of the shift plate is loosely fitted in an axial gap between a clutch body and a shift flange integral with a clutch sleeve. A recessed groove for storing grease therein is provided in at least one of paired opposite side faces between the semicircular ring-shaped portion of the shift plate and the clutch body as well as the shift flange. The shift lever and the shift plate are both molded using resin. Mutually fitting portions of the shift plate and the shift lever are constituted by projections and holes. Sloped surfaces serving as assembling guides are respectively formed in each end face of the projection and each side face around the hole.

A rotor is fitted on a rotational driving shaft of an internal combustion engine. Permanent magnets are arranged on the circumference of the rotor. Opposing the permanent magnets, a number of coils for charging a battery used for lighting, and a group of coils for charging a condenser used for ignition, are arranged on the stator core radially. The group of coils for charging the condenser are arranged on a number of salient poles extending along the axial direction of the stator. The coils for charging the ignition condenser generate two separate voltages at low and high rotational speeds of the engine.

A silencer-carrying rotary vane pump wherein a hollow portion is provided between inner and outer circumferential walls of a cylindrical center case of the vane pump. The hollow portion is closed with side covers to form a sealed chamber through which a pumped out medium is discharged to the outside. A plurality of partitions may be provided in a portion of the sealed chamber to divide the sealed chamber into a plurality of sealed compartments, with adjacent compartments being in communication with each other by a passage having a small cross-sectional area. Soundproof members may be provided in the sealed compartments and an additional discharge port may be provided for communicating the sealed chamber with the outside of the pump.
