A cylindrical radial flow type dust collector filter for filtering the fluid flowing in the radial direction thereof is disclosed. The filter is composed of a cylindrical first filter member having a zigzag-shaped cross section in the flowing direction of the fluid, a second filter member having flowing resistance smaller than that of the first filter member, which is arranged outside of the first filter member so as to cover the outer periphery thereof and a third filter member having flowing resistance substantially the same as that of the second filter member, which is arranged inside of the first filter member so as to cover the inner periphery thereof and to define an open passage for the fluid in the axially central portion thereof.

Radial flow type dust collecting filter

A filter for cleaning exhaust gases emitted from a diesel engine and a method for producing the same are disclosed. The filter is composed of a cleaning portion formed of porous ceramic, through which the exhaust gases flow and in which carbon particulates in the exhaust gases are collected, and an outer wall portion formed of the same kind of material as that of the cleaning portion, which is formed around the cleaning portion so as to be integral therewith. The bulk density of the outer wall portion increases from the inner periphery thereof toward the outer periphery thereof so that the exhaust gases can be prevented from flowing out of the outer wall portion. The filter of the present invention can be formed by immersing an organic three dimensional network structure such as polyurethane foam, within a ceramic slurry bath, spraying ceramic slurry to the outer surface of the structure, and firing the obtained structure to which ceramic slurry is sprayed.

An exhaust gas cleaning device provided with a filter member for collecting particulates in the exhaust gases, and an electric heater for burning and eliminating the particulates collected by the filter member, is disclosed. The filter member is formed of electrically insulating ceramic and is installed in the exhaust gas passage. The heater is formed of ceramic provided with a large number of open passages and having electric conductivity or electrically insulating property. The heater is closely adhered to the exhaust gas inlet end surface of the filter member. In the case that the electrically conductive ceramic is used, the ceramic itself acts as a heating element which heats and ignites the collected particulates. In the case that the electrically insulating ceramic is used, a metallic film acting as a heating element is formed on the walls of the ceramic defining the open passages by printing, vacuum evaporating or other method.

Exhaust gas cleaning device for internal combustion engine

A dust collecting filter is provided with a zigzag shaped filter member having small meshes and comparatively large flowing resistance, which is disposed within a casing so that the zigzag shaped cross section thereof extends in the fluid flowing direction. Other filter members having comparatively small flowing resistance are charged within the spaces defined by the zigzag shaped filter member.

A ceramic structure including a metallic body such as an electric heater. The metallic body is retained in a retaining portion of the ceramic structure in such a manner that a minute cavity is provided around the metallic body. This ceramic structure is produced by forming an organic film around the metallic body, preparing a ceramic structure including the metallic body surrounded with the organic film in a retaining portion of the ceramic structure, and heating the resultant structure so as to decompose the organic film, whereby a minute cavity is formed around the metallic body.

Particles contained in the exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine are trapped by a particle-trapping-member disposed in an exhaust gas flow path. The flow rate of the exhaust gas is measured directly or indirectly, and the pressure loss for the trapping member is compared with an exhaust gas flow rate to measure the degree of clogging trapped by the trapping member. When the degree of clogging exceeds the predetermined valve, a command signal for closing an intake throttle is generated to reproduce said particle-trapping-member.

An exhaust gas cleaning device comprises at least one exhaust gas flowing passage, at least one particulates collecting member composed of two filter elements having different heat capacity, which is disposed within the exhaust gas flowing passage and heating means which is interposed between the filter elements so as to be closely contacted therewith. The filter element having smaller heat capacity is disposed on the upper stream side of the heating means and the filter element having larger heat capacity is disposed on the downstream side thereof. The filter element having smaller heat capacity is rapidly heated by the heating means and the heat of the filter element having smaller heat capacity is transmitted to the filter element having larger heat capacity. All of the particulates collected by the particulates collecting member can be burnt off with excellent heat efficiency.

A burner device adapted for use in a particulate filter arranged in an exhaust system in a diesel engine for incinerating particles collected by the filter. The device includes a mixing chamber for mixing the fuel and the air, the chamber has nozzles for generating flows of the mixture directed to the combustion chamber. Means are provided for pre-heating the air introduced into the mixing chamber. A trapping vaporizer is provided for improving the vaporization of the fuel in the mixing chamber.

A carbon particulates cleaning device comprises a carbon particulates catching means, a fuel injecting means, a fuel retaining means for retaining the fuel injected by the fuel injecting means near the carbon particulates catching means, a fuel igniting means for igniting the fuel retained by the fuel retaining means, and a gas blowing means which blows gas for maintaining the fuel burning and applying the heat of the burning fuel into the carbon particulates caught by the carbon particulates catching means. The carbon particulates caught by the carbon particulates catching means are effectively burnt and eliminated by supplying gas which is heated due to the burning heat of the fuel ignited by the fuel igniting means.

A carbon particulates cleaning device for use in a diesel engine of an automobile or the like comprises an exhaust gas main pipe, an exhaust gas branch pipe diverged from the exhaust main pipe, a carbon particulates catching member which is provided within at least one of the exhaust gas main pipe and the exhaust gas branch pipe, a valve means by which exhaust gas is selectively supplied into the exhaust gas main pipe or the exhaust gas branch pipe, a heating means which heats the carbon particulates catching member, a gas supplying means which supplies gas into the carbon particulates catching member when the carbon particulates catching member is heated and a control means which controls each operation of the valve means, the heating means and the gas supplying means. When the carbon particulates caught by the carbon particulates catching member reaches a predetermined volume, a control means operates to stop the exhaust gas from flowing into the carbon particulates catching member, the upper stream portion of the carbon particulates catching member is heated over the burning temperature of carbon particulates by the heating means and gas such as air is supplied from the gas supplying means into the carbon particulates catching member to transmit the heat of the upper stream portion of the carbon particulates catching member into the downstream portion thereof. As a result, the carbon particulates catching member is effectively heated by a small amount of heat energy and the carbon particulates caught by the carbon particulates catching member are burnt and eliminated.

A filter for cleaning exhaust gases emitted from a diesel engine is disclosed. The filter is composed of a cleaning portion formed of porous ceramic, through which the exhaust gases flow and in which carbon particulates in the exhaust gases are collected, and an outer wall portion formed of the same kind of material as that of the cleaning portion, which is formed around the cleaning portion so as to be integral therewith. The bulk density of the outer wall portion increases from the inner periphery thereof toward the outer periphery thereof so that the exhaust gases can be prevented from flowing out of the outer wall portion.

An exhaust gas cleaning device for an internal combustion engine comprises a housing provided with an inlet port which is communicated with an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and an outlet port, two particulates collecting members disposed in two independent exhaust gas flowing passages which are communicated with the inlet port through an inlet chamber and with the outlet port through an outlet chamber, a butterfly valve provided in the inlet chamber for alternately directing the exhaust gases into either one of the exhaust gas flowing passages and a heated air supplying means for burning off the particulates collected by the particulates collecting members, which is provided with a heated air outlet port opening into the inlet chamber so as to be opposed to the inlet port with the butterfly valve therebetween.

A vane type pump having a housing formed with an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber and having a cylinder portion, a cylindrical rotor mounted for eccentric rotation in the cylinder portion, and a plurality of vane mounted for concentric rotation in the cylinder portion. The rotor is formed with slots through which the vanes extend into a space defined between the inner peripheral wall of the cylinder portion and the outer peripheral wall of the rotor so as to divide the space to define a working chamber variable in volume for pumping effect. An exhaust gas cleaning device comprises a casing provided with an inlet port which is communicated with an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and an outlet port, two particulates collecting members disposed in two independent exhaust gas flowing passages which are communicated with the inlet port and the outlet port of the casing, a valve means provided on the downstream side of the two exhaust gas flowing passages for selectively passing the exhaust gases into either one of the exhaust gas flowing passages and a heated air supplying means provided on the downstream side of the collecting members for selectively supplying heated air into either one of the particulates collecting members.
