The variable displacement gear pump for a loading system in an industrial vehicle has main and sub gear pump portions, suction, discharge and bypass passages, and check and opening valves. The main gear pump portion has main drive and driven gears, and has suction and discharge side spaces. The sub gear pump portion has sub drive and driven gears, and has suction and discharge side spaces. The bypass passage returns hydraulic fluid in the discharge-side space of the sub gear pump portion to the suction passage. The check valve prevents hydraulic fluid in the discharge-side space of the main gear pump portion from flowing to that of the sub gear pump portion. The opening valve is used for opening and closing the bypass passage, and closes the bypass passage due to a pressure in a discharge conduit of the loading system increased by the load applied to the loading system.

Variable displacement gear pump

A variable displacement rotary pump includes a main pump unit, an auxiliary pump unit, a discharge passage, a bypass passage, a suction passage, a check valve and a control valve. The suction passage is in communication with the discharge passage through the bypass passage and a second discharge port. The check valve is disposed in the discharge passage for preventing fluid in a first discharge port of the main pump unit from flowing into the bypass passage. The control valve is operable for opening and closing the bypass passage. When the control valve opens the bypass passage and the check valve closes the discharge passage, flow rate of the fluid discharged from the discharge passage is reduced. A throttle passage is provided in the bypass passage or the control valve for regulating flow of the fluid in early phase of operation of the control valve to open the bypass passage.

Variable displacement rotary pump

A pump exerts pressure on fluid that has higher saturation pressure than atmospheric pressure at room temperature in a fluid reserving chamber in a fluid tank. The pump is located near the fluid tank. The pump has a housing and a heat generating mechanism. The housing defines a pump chamber, a motor chamber and a communication passage between the pump chamber and the motor chamber and includes at least one introducing port for introducing the fluid from the fluid reserving chamber into the housing and a bleeding port located above the introducing port for returning the fluid from the housing to the fluid reserving chamber. The heat generating mechanism is located in the housing. The fluid circulates into the housing through the introducing port and out of the housing through the bleeding port for substantially reducing the temperature in the housing.

An electromagnetic spring clutch may be utilized to engage a drive shaft of a auxiliary machine for vehicle and may include an input pulley rotatably supported by a housing of the auxiliary machine for vehicle . An electromagnetic coil may be disposed within the input pulley and an armature may be reversibly coupled to the input pulley by the electromagnetic coil . An output hub may transmit torque applied to the input pulley to the drive shaft . Preferably, the output hub is prevented from moving in an axial direction relative to the drive shaft and a clearance C is defined between the input pulley and the output hub . Preferably, the clearance C is prevented from increasing during operation. A coil spring may couple the armature to the output hub . The coil spring is preferably prevented from the intruding into the clearance C between the input pulley and the output hub

Electromagnetic spring clutches

Fluid heating devices may be utilized, for example, to heat a vehicle coolant and may include a rotor body rotatably supported within a rotor housing. A plurality of blades may be disposed on a circumferential surface of the rotor body and a channel may be defined between each two adjacent blades. Each channel has a base portion, an inner circumferential end and an outer circumferential end. Preferably, the inner circumferential end is longer than the outer circumferential end as measured from the base portion. Further, the outer circumferential ends of the channels may define wall portions and the wall portions are preferably shorter than the inner circumferential ends as measured from the base portions of the channels. In view of this design, it is not necessary to provide shields toward the outer circumferential ends of the channels.

Fluid heating devices

In a heat generator for a vehicle according to the present invention, an operation chamber defined in the heat generator is composed of a heat generation area ( ) which receives therein a rotor, a storage area ( ) which contains viscous fluid, and a boundary opening ( ) of a relatively large surface area, which connects the two areas. The boundary opening is provided with a pair of transfer openings ( A, B) in a point-symmetric arrangement with respect to the rotation axis C of the rotor. Guide portions ( A, B), each corresponding to each of the openings, are provided in the storage area. With this structure, since at least one of the transfer openings and the guide portion corresponding thereto are located below the surface level L of the viscous fluid regardless of the attachment angle of the heat generator, the exchange and circulation of the viscous fluid can be carried out between the heat generation area and the storage area, in accordance with the rotation of the rotor.

Heat generator for vehicle

A heat generator comprises a partitioning wall,in opposed relation to a rotor in a heat generating area, in which the partitioning wall is formed with a supply groove,for introducing the viscous fluid to the outer peripheral area of the heat generating area from a storage area, and a recovery groove,for leading out the viscous fluid to the storage area from the outer peripheral area of the heat generating area. The shape, position and the mounting angle of the supply groove,and the recovery groove,are designed to set the outflow ratio &agr; to not more than 0.92. The outflow ratio &agr; is defined as the ratio (&agr;&equals;Qout,/Qin) of the amount Qout,of the viscous fluid flowing out from the heat generating area due to the forcible transfer function of the recovery groove,to the total amount Qin of the viscous fluid flowing from the storage area into the heat generating area.

Heat generator

A control apparatus and method for controlling an automotive heater apparatus. The heater apparatus includes a coolant circuit for cooling an engine, a coolant circulating through the circuit, a heat generator for transferring heat to the coolant, and a heater core for transferring heat from the coolant. The heat generator houses a viscous fluid and a rotor selectively connected to and disconnected from the engine by a clutch. The clutch connects the engine with the rotor to shear the viscous fluid and generate heat. When the rotating speed of the rotor exceeds a rotor speed limit, which varies in accordance with the detected coolant temperature, the clutch disconnects the rotor of the heat generator from the engine and de-activates the heat generator.

Automotive heater apparatus

A method for producing a rotor assembly of a heat generator. The rotor assembly includes an inner rotor and an outer rotor that is rotated integrally with the inner rotor. The producing method includes forming the inner rotor from iron or iron alloy, and casting the outer rotor around the inner rotor by aluminum or aluminum alloy so that the outer rotor is firmly fixed to the inner rotor without slippage when heated.

Rotor for heat generators and its manufacturing method

A heating system incorporating a heat generator confining therein a heat-generative fluid to viscously generate heat when a shearing action is applied to the fluid by a rotor element, and a heat-generation controller including a heat-generation adjusting actuator which adjustably changes the heat-generating performance of the heat generator on the basis of a signal detected as a first control signal indicating a change in the rotating speed of the rotor element and a preset reference signal. A second control signal detected to indicate a temperature of the heat-generative fluid is used to adjustably change the preset reference signal. The operation of the heating system is controlled by a method in which the first control signal is compared with the preset reference signal to determine whether or not the heat-generation adjusting actuator should actuated to change the heat-generating performance of the heat generator. The method is performed so as to adjust the preset reference signal on the basis of the second control signal which is detected by a temperature sensor.

Vehicle heating system and a method of controlling the same system

A viscous fluid type heat generating apparatus having a housing forming a cylindrical heat-generating chamber having a cylindrical wall surface and an axially spaced flat annular wall surface, and a rotatably supported rotor element having a cylindrical base portion and an axially extending tubular portion integral with the base portion forming a substantially cylindrical outer face and a cavity portion used as a fluid-storing chamber, the cylindrical portion of the rotor element cooperating with the cylindrical wall surface of the housing to define a main part of a heat-generating gap holding a viscous fluid which generates heat in response to an application of a shearing force to the viscous fluid in response to the rotation of the rotor element. The heat generating apparatus further having an intercommunicating passage providing a fluid communication between the heat-generating gap and the fluid storing chamber to thereby cause a circulation of the viscous fluid during the rotation of the rotor element, and a flow rate controlling actuator controlling an amount of circulation of the viscous fluid in response to a change in the rotating speed of the rotor element.

Vehicular heat generators and viscous fluids for the same

An improved viscous heater for a vehicle heating system is disclosed. The viscous heater has a heat generator including a rotor that agitates viscous fluid to generate the heat. A vehicle engine transmits its rotation to the rotor via an electromagnetic clutch. A thermosensitive switch is attached to the heat generator and selectively connects and disconnects the electromagnetic clutch with electric power source. The thermosensitive switch is selectively activated and deactivated based on magnitude of the heat generated by the agitated viscous fluid. The thermosensitive switch is deactivated when the ambient temperature is in excess of the predetermined uppermost value (T) and activated when the temperature in smaller than the predetermined lowermost value (T-.DELTA.T).

Heat generator for vehicle heating system

A heat generator has a heating chamber and a pair of heat exchange chambers located adjacent to the heating chamber. The heating chamber includes inner walls and accommodates viscous fluid. A rotor is located in the heating chamber and has shearing surfaces facing the inner walls of the heating chamber. The rotor is rotated for shearing the viscous fluid that occupies the clearance between the inner walls of the heating chamber and the working surfaces thereby generating heat. Each inner wall includes a center region, which is located in the vicinity of the axis of the rotor, and a peripheral region, which surrounds the center region. Heat generated in the heating chamber is transferred to the heat exchange chambers and heats circulating fluid in the heat exchange chambers. Each inner wall includes grooves extending radially from the peripheral region to the center region. Each groove includes a bottom and a pair of side walls. The cross-section of each groove is U-shaped, without sharp corners, to prevent flow disturbances in the groove and to prevent wear of the mold that forms the grooves.
