A V-type two cycle, supercharged engine having scavenging ports for said cylinders includes a mechanical supercharger and a surge tank. A pair of rotors of the supercharger are horizontally arranged in parallel with each other with one positioned directly below the other and them supercharger is offset laterally toward one of the left and right banks from the center of the V-shaped space defined between the left and right banks. An air expulsion opening is formed in the supercharger housing on its side nearest to the other bank. The surge tank is disposed below the supercharger and is partly expanded upward on the side nearest the other bank.

V-type two cycle supercharged engine

A diesel engine intake system including a timing valve which is positioned in the intake system in engine starting and warming-up period under a cold engine condition. The timing valve is opened in the final period of the intake stroke so that a strong suction pressure is produced in the combustion chamber before the timing valve is opened. When the timing valve is opened, the intake air is rushed into the combustion chamber at a high speed whereby the intake air is compressed under the inertia of the high speed flow to thereby increase the temperature of the intake air. The timing valve is responsive to the suction pressure in the combustion chamber and opened when the suction pressure becomes stronger than a predetermined level.

Intake system for diesel cycle engines

An internal combustion engine is provided in its exhaust system with a particulate filter for trapping combustible particulates contained in exhaust gas. A combustion promoting material injection device is provided for injecting a material for promoting combustion of the combustible particulates into the exhaust system upstream of the particulate filter. Further there are provided a bypass exhaust passage which bypasses the combustion promoting material injection device and the particulate filter, and a flow control valve which controls the amount of exhaust gas flowing through the bypass exhaust passage to control the amount of exhaust gas flowing into the particulate filter when said combustion promoting material is to be injected from the injecting device. When the combustion promoting material is injected, the flow control valve controls the amount of exhaust gas flowing into the particulate filter so that the combustion promoting material can uniformly adhere to the surface of the combustible particulates over the entire area thereof and so that the combustion temperature of the combustible particulates is prevented from rising abnormally high.

Exhaust gas cleaning system for vehicle

A diesel engine including an auxiliary or swirl chamber provided in the cylinder head and in communication with a main combustion chamber. The auxiliary chamber is defined in a shell structure which is located in the cylinder head and provided with a heat insulating structure. The engine includes an exhaust gas recirculating system in which the exhaust gas recirculation ratio, expressed as a percentage, is controlled in a range between (60-100.times.1/.lambda.) and (140-210.times.1/.lambda.), where .lambda. is the excess air ratio.

Diesel cycle engines having heat insulated auxiliary combustion chambers

An exhaust gas cleaning device for diesel engines including a filter provided in an exhaust gas passage of the diesel engine for trapping particulate materials in exhaust gas passing through the exhaust gas passage, and a burner upstream of the filter for burning the particulate materials deposited on the filter. The filter has a gas inlet surface which is perpendicular to an axial direction along which the exhaust gas is passed and where the particulate materials are apt to be deposited. The burner include a fuel nozzle and a combustion chamber for effecting combustion of fuel from the fuel nozzle. A mixing chamber is provided between the combustion chamber and the filter for drawing the engine exhaust gas to mix it with combustion gas from the combustion chamber. The mixing chamber has an inlet communicating with the combustion chamber and an outlet opposite to the inlet. The gas inlet surface of the filter is exposed to the mixing chamber at the outlet.

Exhaust gas cleaning device for diesel engines

A fuel intake control system for a supercharged engine including an engine driven supercharger comprises a primary intake passage having a primary throttle valve for controlling the flow of an air-fuel mixture to be supplied to the engine, and an auxiliary intake passage having an auxiliary throttle valve for controlling the flow of at least an air supercharged by the supercharger and adapted to be supplied to the engine. The pressure of the discharged air by the supercharger during a particular engine operating condition is adjusted in dependence on the load imposed on the engine in such a way as to increase with increase of the load. This can be accomplished by controlling the flow of a portion of the discharged air to be relieved to the atmosphere or by controlling the rotational speed of the supercharger.

Fuel intake control system for supercharged engine

An exhaust gas purifying device for use with a diesel engine comprising a filter block disposed in an engine exhaust passage for collecting exhaust gas particulates, and a heater for incinerating the collected exhaust gas particulates. The filter block has parallel channels defined therein and separated from one another by porous partition walls, some of the channels being closed at their inlet ends with blind plugs while the other channels are closed at their outlet ends with blind plugs. The heater is supported by the blind plugs.

Exhaust gas purifying device

A fuel intake system for a supercharged engine including an engine driven supercharger comprises a primary intake passage having a primary throttle valve for controlling the flow of an air-fuel mixture to be supplied to the engine, an auxiliary intake passage having an auxiliary throttle valve for controlling the flow of at least an air supercharged by the supercharger and adapted to be supplied to the engine, and an electromagnetic clutch for initiating and interrupting the transmission of the drive from the engine to the supercharger. The clutch is in position to establish the drive transmission between the supercharger and the engine only during the high load engine operating condition.

Fuel intake system for supercharged engine

An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system for a diesel engine comprising an EGR control valve for regulating the flow of exhaust gases to be recirculated from an engine exhaust system back to an engine air intake system. When the exhaust gas recirculation is to be interrupted, the EGR control valve is closed a predetermined time after the opening of a throttle valve used in the air intake system for regulating the flow of air towards the engine. For this purpose, delay valves are utilized in association with the throttle valve and the EGR control valve.
