The present invention provides a drive controlling apparatus used in a sheet supplying apparatus including a lift/lower sheet supporting device for supporting a sheet, a sheet supply mechanism for feeding out the sheet supported by the sheet supporting device, a biasing mechanism for biasing the sheet supporting device toward the sheet supply mechanism, and a separating mechanism for separating the sheet supporting device from the sheet supply mechanism in opposition to a biasing force of the biasing mechanism, and wherein the sheet urged against the sheet supply mechanism by the biasing mechanism is fed out by the sheet supply mechanism, said drive controlling apparatus adapted to transmit a driving force for operating the separating mechanism from a drive source and comprising a drive side device connected to the drive source, a driven side device connected to the separating mechanism, and a play setting device for providing a play for not transmitting the driving force within a predetermined range between the drive side device and the driven side device.

Sheet supplying apparatus

An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a recording head having in a surface thereof ink discharge openings for discharging ink and a first cleaning member disposed at a non-recording area offset from a recording area and opposed to the recording head for removing foreign matter including ink by scrubbing the surface. A second cleaning member is disposed at a side area of the recording head for scrubbingly cleaning foreign matter including ink adhered to said first cleaning member. The second cleaning member has an introducing path into which is introduced the foreign matter including ink adhered to the first cleaning member and an absorbing member disposed at an end portion of the introducing path for collecting the foreign matter including ink introduced into the introducing path from the first cleaning member. In the apparatus different color inks are cleaned by the first cleaning member in the order of a lighter ink to a darker ink color.

The present invention provides an image forming system including a containing portion capable of containing a first sheet supporting means for stacking and supporting sheets, extender means for expanding a containing space of the containing portion in a height direction so that a second sheet supporting means having sheet containing ability greater than that of the first sheet supporting means can be contained in the expanded containing space, sheet supply means for feeding out the sheet from the first or second sheet supporting means contained in the containing portion; and image forming means for forming an image on the sheet fed by the sheet supply means. Wherein the extender means includes a plurality of extender members adapted to be arranged at both lateral sides of the sheet supporting means to increase the height of the containing portion, and connecting means for connecting the plurality of extender members.

Image forming system

An ink jet recording apparatus has plural ink discharge portions, in corresponding recording heads, for discharging different color inks. The ink discharge portions are arranged with a discharge portion for relatively light ink always followed by a discharge portion for relatively dark ink (a given ink being lighter than another ink if the color of a mixture of those two inks is closer to the color of the other ink than to the color of the given ink). A carriage for scanning the recording heads causes a retractable cleaning member and the ink discharge portions to move relative to each other in a single direction so that the ink discharge portions are cleaned only in the order of lighter to darker inks. A second cleaning member is disposed at a position opposed to the first cleaning member to clean the first cleaning member. The second cleaning member includes an ink absorbing member and a plate-like member abutting the ink absorbing member and having an opening therein for causing ink droplets adhered to the plate-like member to be drawn into the ink absorbing member by capillary action.

This specification discloses a sheet conveying device for conveying a sheet which is applied to an image recording apparatus. More particularly, the specification discloses a sheet conveying device for conveying a sheet by the cooperation between a rotational member rotatable in the direction of sheet conveyance and a contact member which is in contact with the rotational member. According to the present invention, there is provided a sheet conveying device which can convey a sheet without causing oblique movement and irregularity of feeding of the sheet, for example, even under high temperature and high humidity conditions.

Method and apparatus for feeding sheet

An ink jet recorder is provided with a recovery device for preventing unsatisfactory ink discharge of a recording head, the recovery device being provided with ink suction means having a cap covering an ink discharge port, a vent valve for opening and closing the interior of the cap with respect to the atmosphere and a suction pump for producing a negative pressure in the cap, and wiping means having a cleaning blade adapted to be advanced and retracted relative to the ink discharge port. The cleaning blade is protruded when a motor effecting the sequence operation of the ink suction means revolves in one direction, and is stopped at its retracted position when the motor revolves in the opposite drection. A method of operating such ink jet recorder is characterized by operating the recovery device in one cycle sequence comprising the steps of bringing the cap into intimate contact with the ink discharge port, closing the vent valve, operating the suction pump, opening the vent valve, restoring the suction pump to its initial state, operating the suction pump, restoring the suction pump to its initial state, closing the vent valve, spacing the cap apart from the surface of the ink discharge port, opening the vent valve, and restoring the suction pump to its initial state.
