An image retention phenomenon and black unevenness generated after long-time operation in the liquid crystal device are prevented. By using a material having a polyamide acid ester as a precursor less likely to adsorb impurities on a boundary for an alignment film and a material having a dielectric constant anisotropy &#x394;&#x2208; of 5 or less for liquid crystals, adsorption of an antioxidant dispersed in the liquid crystals is suppressed to prevent oxidation of the liquid crystals. The extent that impurities are intruded into the liquid crystals is reduced by restricting the dielectric constant anisotropy &#x394;&#x2208; of the liquid crystals to 5 or less, thereby capable of preventing the image retention phenomenon and the black unevenness.

Provided is a liquid crystal display apparatus including: a liquid crystal panel including a pair of substrates; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched by the pair of substrates; plural electrodes formed on at least one of the pair of substrates; and a pair of polarizers provided in respective outsides of the pair of substrates; and a back light unit provided in a rear of the liquid crystal panel, in which one of the pair of polarizers, which is provided at a side of the back light unit, includes at least two types of layers which cause polarization, and in which the two types of layers include a first layer provided on a side of the liquid crystal layer and a second layer provided on a side of the back light unit, the first layer being a negative uniaxial polarizer layer, the second layer being a positive uniaxial polarizer layer.

A liquid crystal display device having high quality and high reliability is manufactured by preventing the occurrence of damages on a terminal portion due to the radiation of laser beams in cutting a substrate of the display device which is formed using a plastic substrate by the radiation of laser beams. A first substrate has a cutting line at a position which faces a terminal portion of a second substrate. In cutting the first substrate along the cutting line, laser beams are radiated to the first substrate along the cutting line so as to form a groove having a predetermined depth in the first substrate. Then, a load is applied to the first substrate along the groove so as to cut the first substrate.

A liquid crystal display includes a pair of substrates including at least one transparent substrate, a liquid crystal layer arranged between the substrates, a plurality of electrodes formed on at least one of the substrates to apply an electric field to the liquid crystal layer, a plurality of active elements connected to the electrodes, an alignment layer formed on the surface of each of the substrates in contact with the liquid crystal layer, and an optical means formed on at least one of the substrates to change the optical characteristics in accordance with the alignment condition of the particles of the liquid crystal layer. The taper angle at the ends of the electrodes is larger than 45 degrees but less than 90 degrees.

Liquid crystal display apparatus for performing alignment process by irradiating light

Work is irradiated with polarized light generated by configuring in such a manner as to have a polarizer using a grating that separates polarized light from non-polarized light, a lamp and a condenser mirror that allow light to fall on the polarizer, a collimator lens that converts the incoming light into parallel beams, an integrator lens that uniformizes intensity distribution of light radiated from the polarizer, and a diffusion lens with functions to enlarge or contract the irradiated range to the work size, and by forming protrusions and recesses of the shape, material, and size that fit to the desired wavelength on a substrate such as quartz, etc. that transmit ultraviolet light, and by providing the light-polarizing performance by appropriately providing an incident angle. By carrying out this processing, the alignment film in the liquid crystal display element can be photo-aligned at high accuracy and uniformly.

Apparatus for optically arranging surface of alignment film and method for manufacturing liquid crystal display device using the same

It is an object to provide a liquid crystal display which reduces unsatisfactory display caused by distorted initial alignment direction in a liquid crystal alignment layer for IPS type displays, realizes stable liquid crystal alignment, is high in mass-productivity, and produces high-quality images of increased contrast ratio. In a liquid crystal display device using a photodecomposition type light orientation film, the deterioration of display performance due to an impurity resulting from a light orientation treatment of the orientation film is suppressed to enable high-quality image display. In the orientation film to which a liquid crystal orientation function is provided, the amount of decomposition product due to the orientation film is 3957.5 ng or less per 100 cm.

A process for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including a step of irradiating polarized UV light to an orientation film formed on a substrate. A power of the irradiating polarized UV light is set to a value which is less than 10 mJ/cm.

Polarized UV light irradiation method for liquid crystal display device

In a liquid crystal display device comprising a substrate which has an organic material film (e.g. a leveling layer, or an alignment film) and a conductive oxide film (e.g. an electrode) covering at least a part of the organic material film both formed on an inner surface thereof facing a liquid crystal layer, the present invention provides the conductive oxide film formed at a temperature being neither higher than a thermal decomposition temperature of the organic material film nor lower than a heat deflection temperature of the organic material film, so as to prevent blebs from foaming from the organic material film and appearing in the liquid crystal layer even after a long term storage of the liquid crystal display device or even external force applied to the liquid crystal display device.

Liquid crystal display device and fabrication method thereof

The irregularities of coloring concentration which is generated between dyed media when a color filter substrate which is prepared in a manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display device is manufactured by supplying ink to dyed media formed on a main surface of the color filter substrate using an ink jet method. In the present invention, as color filter ink which is supplied to the dyed media formed on the color filter substrate using the inkjet method, liquid which contains dye which colors the dyed media, solvent (for example, water) which has an affinity for the dye, a volatility-adjusting agent (for example, glycerin) which lowers the volatility of the ink to a level below the volatility of the solvent, and a dyeing-promoter agent (for example, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) which exhibits a higher affinity for the dye and the dyed media than the volatility adjusting agent. Then, the dyed media is colored with this ink.
