An apparatus for processing an image includes an input unit for inputting user operation information, a recording medium for recording moving image data, a data processor for retrieving data recorded on the recording medium and generating display data in response to an input to the input unit, and a display unit for displaying the display data. The data processor generates a contracted image of an image selected at predetermined time intervals from a scene as a moving image recording unit recorded on the recording medium and displays on the display unit a list of generated contracted images arranged in a time-series order.

A pinch roller type tape drive for driving a magnetic tape on a VTR or the like comprises a capstan for driving the magnetic tape, and a pinch roller for pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan so that the magnetic tape may not slip relative to the circumference of the capstan. The outermost layer of the pinch roller is formed of an elastic material having a hardness higher than that of rubber, which is used for forming the outermost layer of a conventional pinch roller. The pinch roller is capable of pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan at a sufficient pressure without contacting the circumference of the capstan.

A tape guide device includes a guide member of a cylindrical configuration for guiding a tape, a ultrasonic vibrator secured to the guide member for vibrating the guide member in standing-waves configuration and a supporting member for supporting the guide member. A rotation preventing member for preventing a rotation of the guide member is formed on one of a pair of tape position restricting members in the width direction of the tape, whereby the number of the assembly parts of the tape guide device is reduced and a mechanism thereof is simplified. Therefore, the tape guide device can be miniaturized. Also, the structure and the shape of the ultrasonic vibrator are selected so that, even when the tape guide device is miniaturized, a coefficient of friction between the tape and the guide member becomes an optimum value.

In a tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus having a guide drum with rotary heads for recording or reproducing signals in slant tracks scanned on a longitudinally transported tape wrapped helically about a circumferential surface of the drum between a tape-entry position and a tape-exit position; a tape-guiding assembly, which may be part of a tape loading device, includes ultrasonically vibrated tape guides engageably by the tape adjacent the tape-entry and tape-exit positions, respectively, auxiliary guide elements angled relative to the vibrated tape guides, respectively, and each being disposed for engagement by the tape between the respective vibrated tape guide and the tape-entry or tape exit position, respectively, with such auxiliary guide elements having respective surface projections extending therefrom at positions therealong corresponding to widthwise portions of the tape at which the rotary heads scan the tape adjacent the tape-entry and tape-exit positions, respectively, so that the surface projections on the auxiliary guide elements relatively increase tension in the tape at the respective widthwise portions for minimizing errors that may arise in the signals recorded or reproduced in the tracks adjacent the tape-entry and tape-exit positions due to vibrations transmitted along the tape from the vibrated tape guides.

Tape guiding assembly for recording and/or reproducing apparatus

A tape cleaning apparatus for a tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus prevents possible dropping of recording or a possible dropout during recording and/or reproducing operation of a tape while the tape is fed at a low speed and can protect the tape when the tape is fed at a high speed to effect fast feeding or rewinding thereof. The tape cleaning apparatus comprises a blade made of an abrasion resistant material and located on the upstream side of a recording and/or reproducing section of the tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus in a direction in which the tape is fed at the low speed. The tape cleaning apparatus also includes a controller for controlling the blade to assume a first position at which the blade contacts with the tape to remove foreign substance sticking to the tape when the tape is fed at the low speed but to assume a second position at which the blade is spaced apart from the tape when the tape is driven at a high speed.
