The present invention provides an aqueous resin composition that can be utilized in a wide variety of fields including paints for vehicles, paints for cans, paints for the outer facings of buildings, adhesives, inks, impregnating agents for fibers and paper, and sealing agents and the like, wherein the aqueous resin composition comprises a polyester resin (A) having an acid value from 10 to 50 and a hydroxyl value from 20 to 150, a vinyl modified polyester resin (B) having an acid value from 20 to 100 and a hydroxyl value from 20 to 150, and a curing agent (C).

The invention concerns a process for the production of block copolymers or aqueous dispersions and emulsions thereof, whereby azo macroinitiators are reacted with radical-polymerizable monomers or a mixture of several radical-polymerizable monomers. The azo macroinitiators are obtained by reacting simple reactive azo compounds with prepolymers with a molecular weight between 400 and 20000, which possess at least 2 functional groups, e.g. polyurethanes or polyesters. The aqueous block copolymer dispersions and emulsions produced according to the invention are suitable for use for the production of paints, adhesives etc.

A magnetic paint and objects coated with same are disclosed, where the magnetic paint is characterized by comprising, as its essential components, a block copolymer and magnetic powder, said block copolymer having polyurethane and vinyl polymer segments. The magnetic paint of the present invention exhibits good dispersability of the magnetic powder, and good surface smoothness, durability, and wear resistance of the magnetic recording medium. Objects which may be appropriately coated with the magnetic paint of the present invention include high-quality magnetic recording media, such as magnetic tapes, magnetic cards, prepaid cards, magnetic disks and so on.
