An object of the present invention is to enable manufacturing at low cost and to suppress blooming in providing an image reading apparatus using a contact image sensor. A two-piece backing plate divided into two parts in a main scanning direction of a CIS (perpendicular to the direction of movement of an original) is disposed to be opposite to the CIS. The original is advanced between the two-piece backing plate and CIS.

A recording apparatus includes a roll of recording paper, a roll conveying roller for feeding a roll of recording paper, and a sheet conveying roller for feeding sheets of recording paper. Power from a DC motor is transmitted to both rollers through a switching mechanism. The switching mechanism includes a system gear, a planetary gear, and a planetary gear arm, and a locking member for fixing the planetary gear arm at a prescribed position. A head release cam, a head release pulley, and a timing belt cooperate with the switching mechanism to remove pressure from a print recording head to prevent damage to the head during switching. Accordingly, a roll of recording paper and sheets of recording paper can be selected and used as needed without increasing the manufacturing cost and size of the apparatus.

Recording apparatus

A facsimile apparatus having a housing (10) for the apparatus and a telephone placing portion (12) disposed at an upper part of the housing, on which a telephone (11) connected to a public telephone network can be placed. The facsimile apparatus further including elements (18) for scanning an original by feeding the original to generate electrical signals representing image information of the original and elements (19) for recording image information applied to the apparatus through the public telephone network on a sheet. Both the scanning elements and the recording elements are disposed side by side along the direction of feeding of the original. The telephone placing portion is disposed above both the scanning elements and the recording elements to cover the upper portion of both the scanning elements and the recording elements. The apparatus further includes a first passage (32) disposed between the telephone placing portion and the scanning elements for feeding the original and second passage (33) disposed between the telephone placing portion and the recording elements, for feeding the original passed through the first passage. Both the first passage and the second passage can be opened to the outside by opening the placing portion.

The paper feeding device comprises a drive source having a shaft rotatable in forward or reverse direction and a drive gear mounted fixedly to the shaft, a sun gear engaging with the drive gear and being rotatable around a supporting point, first and second planetary arms mounted rotatably to the supporting point of the sun gear, respectively, first and second planetary gears engaging with the sun gear and attached rotatably to the first and second planetary arms, respectively, and arm lock mechanism for positioning and fixing the first and second planetary arms, respectively. The rotation of the shaft of the drive source is transmitted through the first planetary gear to an original feeding roller in the transmission mode and to a platen roller in the reception mode. The driving force is transmitted to the original feeding roller via the second planetary gear and to the platen roller via the first planetary gear in the copy mode.

Paper feeding device for facsimile apparatus

A printer in which a rolled recording paper is housed in a recording paper cassette formed integrally with a printer proper and openably with respect thereto, and one of a thermal recording head or a platen roller is disposed at an openable free end of the cassette with the other disposed in the printer proper, whereby printing onto the recording paper is effected by conducting electrical current to the recording head while the recording paper being clamped by the recording head and platen roller.

A paper feeding device, having a capability of feeding a tip end of a recording paper to between a recording head and a platen roller, includes a detachable paper storage cartridge to be mounted to or de-mounted from the recording device itself and storing the recording paper, a unit for releasing the recording head out of the pressing state against the platen roller, and a unit for feeding the recording paper included in the detachable paper storage cartridge. The device further comprises a unit for sensing that the detachable paper storage cartridge is mounted to the recording device itself. The recording paper is fed automatically between the recording head and the platen roller by means of the releasing means and the feeding means in response to an output signal from the sensing means when the detachable paper storage cartridge is mounted.

Paper feeding device capable of quickly replacing recording paper

A power switching apparatus in accordance with present disclosure includes a sun gear which can be driven to rotate in a first and second direction, an arm which can swing freely relative to the rotating axis of the sun gear. A transfer gear is pivotally provided at the arm for engaging with the sun gear. There is a pair of driven gears disposed a prescribed distance apart from each other in the circumferential direction of the sun gear so that each of said driven gears can engage independently with the transfer gear. A control device controls the position of the transfer gear so that the transfer gear can engage with one of the driven gears before initiation of rotation of the sun gear.
