A gas sensing device comprises a gas sensing element comprising a gas-sensitive resistive film formed of an aggregate of ultrafine particles of a suitable material deposited on the surface of a substrate of an electrical insulator formed with electrodes. In a method of manufacturing such a gas sensing device, a gas-sensitive material is evaporated in a gas atmosphere to provide the gas-sensitive resistive film of ultrafine particles of the material.

A method of making a thin film by vapor depositing a source material onto a substrate, in which a mask plate is provided between the source material and the substrate at a location such that d&lt;5l in which d denotes the distance between the mask plate and the substrate and l denotes the mean free path of the evaporated particles, or s&lt;l in which s denotes the distance between the mask plate and the source material. The mask plate moves relative to the substrate and/or the source material during the deposition. Configuration of the mask plate is designed so as to equalize deposition rates through the above-mentioned movement.

Gas sensing device

A red emission fluorescent display device employing improved SnO.sub.2 :Eu phosphor as a low-energy-electron excitation phosphor. The phosphor is manufactured by the following steps: An aqueous solution of a mixture of europium and at least one material selected from stannous halides and stannous sulfate is prepared. The amount of europium ion is adjusted so that the ratio thereof to tin ions ranges between 5.times.10.sup.-2 and 10 atomic %. The solution is poured into and mixed with a hot aqueous solution including oxalic ions, while the mixed solution is being stirred, to form oxalate coprecipitates of tin and europium. After being dryed the coprecipitate is heated so as to be thermally decomposed and then is subjected to heat treatment at the temperature above that for the thermal decomposition, whereby europium ions are diffused into the stannic oxide matrix. The device exhibits remarkably high luminescence intensity which is satisfactory for practical use.

Low-energy-electron-exciting fluorescent display device

A red emission fluorescent display device employing improved SnO.sub.2 :Eu phosphor as a low-energy-electron excitation phosphor. The phosphor is manufactured by the following steps:

An ultrasonic rangefinder providing a correct distance measurement and comprising a first transducer for transducing electric signals into ultrasonic waves and transmitting the ultrasonic waves, a second transducer for receiving the ultrasonic waves and transducing the ultrasonic waves into electric signals, a differentiation circuit, and a comparator for comparing a level of a differentiated output signal from the differentiation circuit with an output signal level of the second transducer and detecting a threshold time when the level of the differentiated output signal from the differentiation circuit becomes lower then the output signal level of the second transducer where a threshold signal level of the comparator is automatically varied with respect to a time lapse of the travelling ultrasonic waves coming back to the rangefinder after being reflected by an object, thus overcoming the conventional problems due to the spurious-like direct waves.

In a method of making a magnetic gap by depositing a glass layer on a surface of magnetic head core materials by cathodic sputtering of a glass target and cementing a pair of the resulting glass-coated magnetic head core materials, the improvements constituted by monitoring the thickness of the sputtered glass layer by an interference of a light beam guided onto a surface of the magnetic head core materials during the deposition and using a sputtering apparatus having a sample holder beside the target for securing the magnetic core materials and a mask plate for achieving uniform thickness of the sputtered glass layer. The method makes possible production of magnetic heads having excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics with high accuracy.

Flake-like ceramic particles of zinc sulfide phosphor and method of preparing the same including the steps of preparing flake-like particles of basic zinc sulfate crystal doped with activator, sulfurizing in the particles carbon disulfide, and heating the sulfurized particles in hydrogen sulfide. Particularly by steeping said particles in a solution of alkaline earth metal salt prior to or after sulfurizing, grain growth in ceramic particles can be improved.

C. and has a pH value of in the range 4 to 6.5.

The present invention is an electrical terminal unit adapted for supporting an electrical circuit element, for example, a moisture responsive resistor or the like and a sensing device employing this terminal unit. There is provided a humidity sensitive ceramic resistor having high humidity activity, low electrical resistance, quick response rate to humidity and high stability with respect to time, temperature, humidity and electric load which is suited for humidity-controlling devices. The ceramic resistor comprises a ceramic composition comprising at least one component having a spinel type cubic symmetry selected from the group consisting of MgCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, FeCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, NiCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, CoCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, MnCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, CuCr.sub.2 O.sub.4, Mg.sub.2 TiO.sub.4, Zn.sub.2 TiO.sub.4, Mg.sub.2 SnO.sub.4 and Zn.sub.2 SnO.sub.4, and , if desired, at least one component selected from the group consisting of TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, HfO.sub.2 and SnO.sub.2.

Humidity sensitive ceramic resistor

A humidity sensitive resistor device for sensing the humidity of an ambient atmosphere. The device has a humidity sensitive resistor formed by a metal oxide sintered substrate having electrodes on one surface thereof, the resistivity of the humidity sensitive resistor decreasing as the ambient humidity which can affect the surface of the humidity sensitive resistor increases; and a heater positioned near the humidity sensitive resistor for applying radiant heat to the surface of the humidity sensitive resistor, which heater can be used for improving the sensitivity of the humidity sensitive resistor. By the application of a slight amount of radiant heat, the humidity sensitivity increases, and by the application of a large amount of strong heat, stains which may be on the surface of the humidity sensitive resistor such as oil can be cleaned off so as to recover the sensitivity of the humidity sensitive resistor which might have been deteriorated by the stain.
