A floor system includes a plurality of panels placed on a base floor. A space is formed between the panels and the base floor for laying cables. A plurality of sliding plates are arranged on the base floor. A plurality of supports are provided and each support of the plurality of supports is arranged on each of the sliding plates so as to freely slide. The plurality of panels are supported by the plurality of supports by being fixed on a pedestal of the each support of the plurality of supports. The plurality of panels are hence connected to each other to form a single floor surface. The dynamic coefficient of friction between the bottom of the supports and the sliding plates is selected to be a value within a range of 0.09 to 0.25.

An apparatus for repairing a liquid crystal display comprises a common electrode, pixel electrodes facing the common electrode, and a liquid crystal sealed between the common and pixel electrodes. If the liquid crystal contains foreign matter which short-circuits the common and pixel electrodes to each other, a pixel electrode is irradiated with a laser beam such that at least a ring line region completely surrounding a portion touching the foreign matter is burnt away, whereby a region inside of the ring line region and a region outside of the ring line region are electrically insulated from each other.

A vibration energy absorber device includes a first fixing member fixed to a building bottom wall, a second fixing member fixed to a building foundation, a lead elastoplastic member having elasticity, both ends of the elastoplastic member being firmly coupled to the corresponding fixing members, and reinforcing members embedded in the elastoplastic member. The reinforcing members include a plurality of first members of a metal (e.g., iron) having a higher tensile strength than that of the elastoplastic member. The first members are wire rods extending from one end to the other end of the elastoplatic member, and are disposed in the elastoplastic member at equal angular intervals.

A seismic isolator has a sliding plate fixed on the lower surface of a building, a connecting plate underlying the sliding plate, an elastic first support disposed between the connecting plate and a foundation of the building to support the building, a second support disposed between the connecting plate and the foundation and urged by a biasing force of a spring member such that its upper end is brought into tight contact with the lower surface of the connecting plate, and a jack for adjusting the biasing force of the spring member. A frictional force acting between the sliding plate and the connecting plate is larger than that between the connecting plate and the upper end of the second support.

Seismic isolator

Method and apparatus for forming a ring-shaped oblique groove in a semiconductor device such as a semiconductor rectifier element for electric power. The method of the present invention is based on the idea of forming the ring-shaped oblique groove with a rotating grinding wheel. The semiconductor device is rotated, and the rotating grinding wheel is made to cut into the rotating semiconductor device to form the groove therein. The grinding wheel is sloped relative to the semiconductor device toward the center of the semiconductor device.

Apparatus for supporting a nuclear reactor core comprises a support frame for supporting core elements and a friction damper through which the support frame is secured to an inner wall of a reactor vessel. The friction damper comprises a first and second cylindrical members which are loosely telescoped with each other, and the first cylindrical member is connected to the support frame and the second cylindrical member is secured to the inner wall of the reactor vessel. Within the telescoped cylindrical members is disposed a ring spring so as to absorb collision energy.
