A non-aqueous secondary battery comprising a positive electrode comprising a lithium-containing metal oxide, and a negative electrode comprising a carbon material as the active material is disclosed. The electrodes are separated by either a separator impregnated with organic electrolyte solution or by a solid electrolyte layer. The negative electrode comprises a mixture of the carbon material and at least one metal oxide selected from TiO , Cr O , MnO , Fe O , CoO, Co O , Co O , NiO, Ni O , Ag O, PbO, Sb O , Bi O , SeO , and TeO .

Method of producing positive active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries

Lithium composite metal oxides prepared by mixing at least one type of hydroxides, oxides, and carbonates of a metal selected from the group of transition metal, IIA metal, and IIIA metal, and a lithium compound of which the D50 value is in the range 5 to 50 &mgr;m, the D90 value is 90 &mgr;m or smaller, and in which particles 100 &mgr;m or greater do not exist, and calcining in the temperature range 700 to 1000&deg; C. for 2 to 30 hours, and grinding, are used as the active material of a positive electrode which is laminated with a negative electrode with a separator interposed and spirally wound thereby forming an electrode group. By using the positive active materials prepared in this manner, discharge capacity and cycle characteristic of a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell can be improved.

Process for the preparation of a lithium composite metal oxide

A nonaqueous secondary battery has high energy density and excellent charging and discharging cycle characteristic. The constitution includes (a) a positive electrode having a positive electrode substance, (b) a negative electrode having an carbon fluoride, and a carbon material, and (c) an electrolyte solution. The positive electrode substance is capable of releasing and occluding lithium ions in charging and discharging, the carbon material is capable of occluding and releasing the lithium ions in the charging and discharging, the carbon fluoride is capable of reacting chemically with the lithium ions, and the electrolyte solution is a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The carbon fluoride is expressed by chemical formula (C.sub.x F).sub.n.

Secondary battery

A positive electrode made of lithium contained metal oxide and a negative electrode made of a carbon material as active material are separated by a separator impregnated with organic electrolyte solution or a solid electrolyte layer. In particular, the carbon material is added with the metal oxide which can electrochemically be reduced by charge to generate a metal. The metal oxide consists mainly of a mixture of the carbon material and at least one metal oxide selected from a group of TiO.sub.2, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO.sub.2, Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4, CoO, Co.sub.2 O.sub.3, Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, NiO, Ni.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ag.sub.2 O, PbO, Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, SeO.sub.2, and TeO.sub.2.

A method for producing a cathode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which comprises the step of heating a mixture of .beta.-Ni(OH).sub.2 and a lithium salt in the presence of oxygen at a temperature ranging from 600.degree. C. to 800.degree. C. to obtain LiNiO.sub.2.

Method for producing cathode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte

A nonaqueous secondary cell is provided, which includes a positive electrode including an active material having the formula: Li.sub.y Ni.sub.1-x Me.sub.x O.sub.2 where Me is one of Ti, V, Mn and Fe; the number of moles of x and y: 0.2&lt;y.ltoreq.1.3; when Me is Ti, V or Fe, 0&lt;x&lt;0.5; and when Me is Mn, 0.ltoreq.x&lt;0.6; having a hexagonal crystal structure and lattice constants a.sub.0 and c.sub.0 in the ranges of 2.83 to 2.89 .ANG. and 14.15 to 14.31 .ANG., respectively, as identified by X-ray diffraction pattern; a negative electrode of Li, an alloy of li or a carbon material intercalated with Li; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The active material having the formula: Li.sub.y Ni.sub.1-x Mn.sub.x O.sub.2 where the number of moles of x and y are 0.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.3 and 1.0.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1.3 is produced by employing as starting materials an amount of a compound of divalent Mn corresponding to the number of atomic moles of Mn indicated by x, an amount of a nickel compound corresponding to the number of atomic moles of Ni indicated by 1-x, and an amount of a lithium compound corresponding to the number of atomic moles of Li indicated by y; predrying the starting materials, subjecting to a first heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere and passing through a cooling stage to produce an intermediate; and subjecting the intermediate to a second heat treatment at a different temperature from that in the first treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere.

Process for production of positive electrode active material

The present invention relates to a separator and spacer for use in non-aqueous inorganic electrolyte cells using oxyhalides as both a solvent and cathode active material, and an alkali metal as anode active material. There is provided a non-aqueous inorganic electrolyte cell which has a good discharge performance, preservability, and a safety to resist the charging at 5 V caused due to erroneous operations and accidents, by specifying a content of glass involved in the separator made of mainly glass fibers, specifying the type of synthetic resin of other components than glass fibers, or by specifying an oxyhalide absorbance of materials from which the separator and the spacer are produced.

Non-aqueous inorganic electrolyte cell

The invention relates to a nonaqueous electrochemical cell comprising an alkali metal anode, an oxyhalide or other cathode-electrolyte solvent which is liquid at ambient temperature, and a porous carbonaceous cathode collector, the cathode-electrolyte containing at least polyethylene terephthalate as an additive for minimizing the voltage delay, i.e. a large voltage drop in an initial stage of discharge.

Nonaqueous electrochemical cell and a method of manufacturing the same

A flat battery has a flat generating element which is sealed and sheathed within a two-fold electrically insulating sheathing film, and positive and negative terminals are provided on either the upper or the lower surface thereof. The capacity of the battery per unit area is increased, and either the positive or the negative terminal, which can extend along the inner side of the film, can be reduced in size and simplified.

Disclosed is a dry cell comprising a depolarizing mix consisting of manganese dioxide, carbon black and an electrolytic solution containing, as a major electrolyte, a neutral salt, a zinc anode and a cathode collector made of an alloy containing iron as a major component and more than 10% by weight of chromium.
