A sustain pulse generation circuit of a plasma display device generates and switches a first sustain pulse for causing light emission having double peaks, a second sustain pulse having a falling edge steeper than that of the first sustain pulse, and a third sustain pulse having a rising edge and a falling edge steeper than those of the first sustain pulse and causing light emission having a single peak. The second sustain pulse or the third sustain pulse is generated immediately before the third sustain pulse. The first sustain pulse is generated immediately before the second sustain pulse. Provided between the second sustain pulse and the third sustain pulse and between the third sustain pulses is a first overlap period in which a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to rise is overlapped with a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to fall.

Plasma display device and plasma display panel driving method

A plasma display device has a plasma display panel, an accumulative adding circuit for accumulatively adding predetermined values every predetermined unit time while current is applied to the plasma display panel, and a judging circuit for judging the property of an image to be displayed on the plasma display panel. The accumulative adding circuit varies the predetermined values in response to the judgment result of the judging circuit.

A method drives a panel and a plasma display unit, wherein one field includes a plurality of subfields, each having an addressing period for producing an address discharge selectively in the discharge cells, and a sustaining period for producing a sustain discharge by applying a number of sustaining pulses corresponding to a weight of brightness in a discharge cell where the address discharge has been produced. Additionally, a sustaining pulse generator circuit includes a power recovery section for controlling the rising or the falling of the sustaining pulse by producing resonance between an inter-electrode capacitance of a display electrode pair and an inductor, and a clamping section for clamping a voltage of the sustaining pulse at a predetermined potential, wherein the power recovery section is used to set twice a time of the rising of the sustaining pulse to be equal to or longer than a duration of the sustaining pulse.

Method of driving plasma display panel and plasma display unit

In the initializing period of each of sub-fields comprising one field, one of all-cell initializing operation and selective initializing operation is performed. The all-cell initializing operation causes initializing discharge in all the discharge cells for displaying an image. The selective initializing operation selectively causes initializing discharge only in the discharge cells subjected to sustaining discharge in the preceding sub-field. Provided in the all-cell initializing period is an abnormal charge erasing part in which application of a rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrodes causes self-erasing discharge in the discharge cells having excessive wall voltage accumulated therein.

Method of driving plasma display panel

A panel driving method has, in one filed time period, an all-cell initializing subfield for causing initializing discharge in all discharge cells for displaying an image in the initializing period, and a selection initializing subfield for selectively causing initializing discharge in the discharge cell that has caused sustaining discharge in the last subfield in the initializing period. The number of all-cell initializing subfields can be increased and decreased, and the initializing voltage for causing initializing discharge in the all-cell initializing subfield can be varied. Method of driving plasma display panel, and plasma display device

One field is formed of a plurality of sub-fields, and each one of the sub-fields includes an initializing period, addressing period, and sustained period. The sub-field is one of an entire-cell initialization sub-field or a selective-cell initialization sub-field. When the entire initialization sub-field is switched to the selective one or vice versa, an initializing voltage which generates initializing discharge in the entire initialization sub-field is controlled. This control allows varying the number of the entire initializations and stabilizing address discharge in a plasma display panel, and at the same time, making the black luminance inconspicuous for improving the picture quality.

Provided are at least three driving modes having different sub-field structures: a low-temperature driving mode, an ordinary-temperature driving mode, and a high-temperature driving mode. To drive the panel, estimates of the highest temperature and the lowest temperature the panel can have are made from the temperature detected by the thermal sensor, the temperature condition of the panel is determined from the estimated highest temperature or lowest temperature, and the driving mode is switched appropriately for the panel temperature condition.

Plasma display panel driving method having a high temperature and low temperature driving mode and plasma display device thereof

A method and device for driving a plasma display panel are provided that do not cause false lighting even if the all-cell initializing operation becomes unstable. In an initializing period of a subfield, an all-cell initializing operation of causing initializing discharge in all discharge cells or a selective initializing operation of causing initializing discharge in the discharge cell that has caused sustain discharge in the last sustain period is performed. In a field corresponding to an image signal for displaying black on the whole screen, an abnormal charge erasing period for applying rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrode is disposed after the initializing period in the subfield where the all-cell initializing operation is firstly performed. In a field corresponding to an image signal other than the image signal for displaying black on the whole screen, an abnormal charge erasing period for applying rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrode is disposed after the initializing period in any subfield after the subfield where the all-cell initializing operation is firstly performed.

A method of driving a plasma display panel including discharge cells, each at an intersection of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a data electrode. One field period is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, each having an initializing period, writing period, and sustaining period. The sustaining period of at least one sub-field has a first sustaining period and second sustaining period. In the first sustaining period, a sustain pulse has a first leading edge duration. In the second sustaining period, the sustain pulse has a second leading edge duration shorter than the first leading edge duration. The second sustaining period is included at least at the end of the sustaining period.

One field period is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, each having an initializing period, writing period, and sustaining period. The sustaining period of at least one sub-field has a first sustaining period and a second sustaining period. In the first sustaining period, a transition period of a sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode is not temporally overlapped with a transition period of a sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode. In a second sustaining period, a transition period of the sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode is temporally overlapped with a transition period of the sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode. The second sustaining period is included at least at the end of the sustaining period.

In a circuit driving a capacitive load Cp, current passed through a transistor Q, a diode Dand a recovering coil L is passed through lines L, L, and the inductance components of the lines Land L, and the drain-source capacitances of the transistors Qand Qgenerate LC resonance. Capacitors Cand Care connected in parallel to the drain-source regions of the transistors Qand Qto increase the total drain-source capacitance and reduce the resonance frequency, so that unwanted electromagnetic wave radiation in a frequency band affecting other electronic devices is suppressed.

The pulse width of scan pulses applied to some of a plurality of scan electrodes in which writing is performed and priming discharge is caused with the scanning of the scan electrodes is larger than the pulse width of scan pulses applied to the other scan electrodes in which writing is performed but no priming discharge is caused with the scanning of the scan electrodes.
