A sample processing apparatus includes a pipette configured to dispense a sample or a reagent and an arm supporting the pipette. A camera is configured to capture an image of a tip end of the pipette and a container to which the sample or the reagent is dispensed. A controller is programmed to determine, based on the image, an adjustment value for the arm such that the pipette is inserted into the container without collision.

A managing method for a sample processing apparatus involving the sample processing apparatus and a management apparatus. The method includes requesting an approval of self-adjustment to the management apparatus from the sample processing apparatus before performing a self-adjustment. Informing the sample processing apparatus of approval of request from the management apparatus, when approving the sample processing apparatus to perform the self-adjustment, and performing a self-adjustment by the sample processing apparatus when the sample processing apparatus is informed that the request has been approved.

Provided is a sample processing apparatus management system, sample processing apparatuses and a management apparatus, and a management method that can accurately and easily adjust the respective sample processing apparatuses irrespective of their individual differences. When abnormality has occurred in a sample analyzer, the sample analyzer requests approval for self-adjustment from a management server. The management server determines whether to permit performance of the self-adjustment, and when having determined to permit the self-adjustment, notifies the sample analyzer of the approval for the self-adjustment. When the approval for the self-adjustment has been notified of, the sample analyzer performs the self-adjustment.

A calculator selects desired data out of a set of data obtained by analyzing a sample, such as blood or urine, and normalizes the selected data with respect to a predetermined level. The normalized values obtained by the calculator may be displayed as values and/or graphs. The graphical display may show a partition line set according to the experiences of the laboratory, so the graph may be quickly understood.

Apparatus and method for displaying normalized clinical test data

A blood analyzer system transports blood samples through at least one blood analyzer and an automatic blood smear generator under the control of a preprogrammable controller. Blood samples are stored in containers that identify the blood samples they contain. The containers move through the system mounted in protective racks that permit the reading of the identifications. The results of analysis by one or more blood analyzers in the system determines for each sample individually whether or not to make a blood smear. When a blood smear is to be made, the controller makes the smear thickness of each blood sample consistent with other samples whatever the consistency of the sample to be smeared. If a required sample is not made, a detector sounds an alarm, thereby alerting operators that the system has failed.

Automated smear generator

A blood analyzer system incorporates a conveyor for handling and transporting sample blood through at least one blood analyzer and an automatic blood smear generator under the control of a programmable controller. Blood samples are stored in sample containers having identifiers for the sample blood that they contain. These sample containers are transported through the system in protective racks that permit the reading of the identifiers. The results of analysis by one or more blood analyzers in the system determines the need for performing or omitting subsequent operations on a particular sample blood. When a smeared blood sample is to be made, the controller assures that the smear thickness is consistent with other samples regardless of the thickness or viscosity of the sample blood. If the system fails to make a required smeared blood sample, a detector sounds an alarm, warning of a system failure.

A rack start/stock unit 16 comprises a loader 30 for loading sample racks from outside the unit, an accumulator 32 for accumulating plural sample racks, an unloader 34 for sending out sample racks to outside the unit, a first moving structure for moving the sample racks at the loader to the accumulator, a second moving structure 40 for moving the sample racks at the accumulator to the unloader, and a third moving structure 44 for moving the sample racks at the unloader to outside of the unit. A cushion yard 60 composed of at least one rack start/stock unit 16 is installed adjacent the conveyor 12, so that plural sample racks may stay stagnant temporarily.

A method for measuring and analyzing particle size distribution of extremely fine particles, such as blood corpuscles and cells, comprises collecting analyzing particle size distribution from the instrument, setting an estimated distribution theoretically, comparing between the two distributions, determining the difference therebetween, and making the difference a characteristic parameter for the analyzing particle size distribution.
