A wire electrode for wire electro-discharge machining comprises a core, and a coating layer formed on an outer periphery of the core at least a surface layer of which contains copper. The coating layer comprises an alloy of copper and at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zn, Cs, Se, Te and Mg, with the copper content being about 55.5 wt % to about 75 wt %. The coating layer does not have an oxide film thereon other than a natural oxide film.

Wire electrode for electro-discharge machining and manufacturing method thereof

Disclosed herein is a wire electrode for wire cutting electro-discharge machining which can improve the processing speed as well as productivity of the wire electrode. A core (2) is made of a copper alloy containing Ag. A coating layer (1) formed on the outer periphery of the core (2) is made of a copper alloy containing Zn and Al.

Wire electrode for electro-discharge machining

An electrode tube for electrical discharge machining includes an outer peripheral portion and a plurality of rails or ribs projecting inwardly from an outer peripheral portion toward the central axis of the tube. The rails or ribs are formed integrally with the outer peripheral portion by drawing, or cold rolling, or hot extrusion. The space inside the tube is substantially divided into a plurality of through holes along the central axis by the plurality of rails or ribs.

A wire electrode for electro-discharge machining made of a Cu alloy containing 38 to 50 percent by weight of Zn. The Cu alloy may also contain 0.01 to 1.0 percent by weight of Zr, 0.001 to 0.05 percent by weight in total of at least one element selected from a group of Ce, Ti, Mg, Bi and Mn, and/or 0.01 to 2.0 percent by weight of at least one element selected from a group of Al, Si, Fe, Ca and La. A method of manufacturing a wire electrode for electro-discharge machining, comprising the steps of preparing a Cu alloy material containing 38 to 50 percent by weight of Zn and thinning the Cu alloy material employing roll working and/or warm working at least in a part of working process.

A tungsten alloy is used as a material of an electrode wire for electric spark cutting. The tungsten alloy comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisted of Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu and oxides thereof. An electrode wire made of such a tungsten alloy handles an improved processing speed and the accuracy of the cut surface is also improved. The number of failures due to breaking of the electrode wire has been reduced and the tensile strength of the electrode wire has been increased. The same effect can be attained when a molybdenum alloy containing one or more oxides of elements selected from the group consisted of Al, Si and K is used as an alloying component in the alloy for making the electrode wire for electric spark cutting.

Electrode wire for electric spark cutting

A wire electrode for use in electro-discharge machining is formed essentially of Cu, including Zn of 5 through 38% by weight and Si of 0.1 through 0.5% by weight so as to suppress sputtering of the electrode material to the workpiece and to improve workability. The wire electrode may include Zn of 30 through 40% by weight, Si of 0.1 through 1.2% by weight and Al of 0.01 through 0.2% by weight in addition to Cu.
