Steering apparatus

A reaction control system controls a reactive force to be applied to an operating device operated by a driver of a vehicle. The system includes a device for measuring a steering speed of steering of the operating device; a device for measuring a steering torque applied to the operating device; and a reactive force correcting device for correcting the reactive force in a manner such that the corrected reactive force increases at least when the measured steering speed is zero, and that the higher the measured steering torque, the higher the corrected reactive force is. The reactive force correcting device may correct the reactive force in a manner such that the higher a speed of the vehicle, the higher the corrected reactive force is. A non-effectivity range of the steering torque in which the corrected reactive force is not influenced by the steering torque may be defined.

Reaction force control apparatus

An electric power steering apparatus having a variable ratio steering gear mechanism includes an electric motor for applying a steering assist torque to the steering system of a vehicle, a control unit for controlling operation of the electric motor on the basis of at least a steering torque of the steering system, and a motor drive unit for driving the motor on the basis of an output signal from the control unit. The control unit includes a steering torque calculating part for outputting a steering torque component corresponding to the steering torque, and a vehicle behavior calculating part for outputting a behavior component corresponding to a vehicle behavior. The control unit corrects the steering torque component by damping it with the behavior component.

Electric power steering apparatus

Variable gear ratio mechanism variably sets a ratio defining a pivot angle of steered wheels of the vehicle to a steering angle of a steering wheel of the vehicle. Electric motor applies an electric steering assist to the steering system of the vehicle. Steering torque sensor detects steering torque in the steering system. Control unit sets a target motor current on the basis of at least the steering torque detected by the steering torque sensor. Gear ratio detector detects the gear ratio set by the variable gear ratio mechanism. Thus, the control unit sets the target motor current on the basis of the gear ratio detected by the gear ratio detector in addition to the steering torque detected by the steering torque sensor. With this arrangement, the target motor current set by the control unit can reflect the currently-set gear ratio, with the result that the operating characteristics of the vehicle's steering system can be changed smoothly and continuously in response to every gear ratio change and an improved steering feel free of unsmoothness and friction is achieved.

An electric power steering apparatus comprises a control unit for drive-controlling a motor to apply an assist torque to a steering system based on signals from various sensors. The control unit comprises a slip angle difference predicting section for predicting a difference between a slip angle of front wheels and a slip angle of rear wheels, and a correcting section for correcting, based on an angle difference signal outputted from the slip angle difference predicting section, a target torque signal supplied to the motor. Behavior of a vehicle is predicted from the angle difference signal and the target torque signal is corrected by a correction amount corresponding to the angle difference signal so that the motor can be drives controlled with the influence of a change in a road surface reaction force taken into consideration.
