When the electrically driven fan () of a vacuum cleaner is driven, air containing dust is drawn into the cleaner main body () through a hose () connected to a hose socket () and is exhausted into the outside of the cleaner main body () through an exhaust port () via first and second suction passageways (). Disposed outside the first suction passageway () is an ion generator (), it being arranged that plus and minus ions generated in the ion generator () are fed to the air stream flowing in the first suction passageway (). Since the plus and minus ions kill floating germs in the air stream, the exhaust can be purified.

There are provided a dust collector for cleaning dirt, dust, etc. adhering to a filter in association with the operation for opening and closing a cap of the dust collector, and a vacuum cleaner provided with the dust collector. A suction tool for an electric vacuum cleaner includes: a suction tool body which is connected to the vacuum cleaner body and has a suction inflow passage therein for conducting a suction air stream from a suction port, to the vacuum cleaner body; and a movable brush which is provided inside the suction inflow passage formed in the suction tool body and is driven by a driver device. In this tool, the movable brush sways and reciprocates back and forth about a support shaft, perpendicular to the direction of the suction inflow stream. Alternatively, the tool may have a linear motor which operates so as to reciprocate a rod which is liked at one end of it with oscillatory plate pivoted inside the suction tool. Further, this movable brush may be formed of a unit which is composed of a sweeping member having a pair of front and rear sweeping parts and a moving brushing part embedded in between, wherein the front sweeping part is shorter than the rear sweeping part.
