Tip for cutting tool

A cutting insert is configured to include: a first portion having a rake face, a flank face, a cutting edge, and a face facing an insert attachment portion at an end of a tool main body; and a second portion having a side surface including at least one flat plane that is parallel to a center line of a tool or inclined at a prescribed angle to the center line. The second portion extends continuously to a region surrounded by the face of the first portion. The second portion is fitted into the tool main body to position the cutting insert and to prevent the cutting insert from rotating.

The present invention provides a pin milling cutter formed by combining a cutter and an adapter to prevent errors in attaching a cutter to the adapter even when the cutter is similar but of a different type and even if the engagement section between the cutter and the adapter are the same. A mounting error prevention mechanism is provided on a main cutter unit and an adapter to prevent an erroneous combination of a cutter and adapter from fitting together normally. The mounting error prevention mechanism includes: a projection and a cavity corresponding to the main cutter unit and the adapter and providing a tapered fit; and a projection and a corresponding groove. The projection can be inserted into the groove only when the cutter and the adapter are combined correctly.

A replaceable-blade cutting insert for corner milling cutters has a first and second surface; a third and fourth surface connected to a first side edge and a second side edge thereof respectively; and a fifth and sixth surface connected to a first edge and a second edge of the first surface and the second surface respectively. The first surface is used as rake face, the third surface is used as an outer perimeter flank face, and the fifth surface is used as a forward flank face. A twisted surface is disposed on a section of the third surface, forming a ridge line that acts as a main cutting edge intersecting with the first surface and interposed between the third and first surface. The first and second surface can be positioned with a height offset relative to each other so that at least one set of diagonal corners are projected.

Throwaway insert for metal cutting tool

A throwaway insert for a pin mirror cutter in which eight corners can be used and which the cutting performance and machining accuracy can be increased by making positive the axial rake angle of the peripheral cutting edge. Side faces of a negative insert of a parallelogrammic shape are formed by two surfaces connecting to each other at an angle so as to have a first included angle and a second included angle. Further, independent arcuate surfaces are provided at the intersections between the arcuate corner sides of each of the side faces and the top and bottom surfaces and the intersections between the obtuse corner sides and the top and bottom surfaces.

A throwaway insert for a ball end mill having an ideal cutting edge shape corresponding to the cutting speeds and loads at different portions of the cutting edges, high in strength and capable of discharging chips smoothly. As viewed in a direction perpendicular to the line connecting noses, each cutting edge forms a convex curve with its nose portion at the lowest level. As viewed in a direction perpendicular to the abovesaid direction, rake faces form symmetrical, downwardly sloping convex accurate surfaces or straight surfaces having a positive rake angle of 5-25.degree.. The wedge angle at the cutting edges is set at 85-65.degree.. Thus, the rake angle will be negative at the noses and positive at other portions. Further, the rake angle increases toward the side where the cutting speed is higher. The thickness of the insert increases toward the side where the load is greater. Since this insert is a modification of a negative insert, i.e. an insert of the type having a side perpendicular to its bottom, it has enough strength. Chips can be discharged smoothly too.

A substantially square throwaway insert can be used for perpendicular machining if a cutting tool on which the insert is mounted is rotated in either direction. All its four corners can be used as cutting edges. Each cutting edge protrudes outwardly toward the center thereof, as viewed from top of the insert. Also, each cutting edge recedes toward the center as viewed from side of the insert. The insert is mounted on a cutting tool with such an axial rake and a radial rake that each corner of the insert can machine a surface having substantially a right angle.

A disposable cutter has a cutter body formed with chip pockets and a plurality of disposable inserts having cutting edges. Each pocket is formed at least at the front or inner side of the body with a spherical blind groove portion. The center of radius of curvature of the spherical blind groove portion is located on an imaginary line drawn from the front end of each cutting edge toward the pocket at a substantially right angle with respect to each cutting edge.
