According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel; a first optical component serving as a switchable optical component capable of being switched between a reflection state and a transmission state of light by a reflection surface thereof; and a second optical component. The reflection surface of the first optical component that faces the display panel is arranged on a light path extending from the display panel. The second optical component has a reflection surface. The reflection surface of the second optical component is on a path of light reflected by the first optical component.

A display device is provided and including a backlight device including a plurality of light sources; a display panel disposed to oppose the backlight device and incline with respect to a direction perpendicular to an optical axis of the backlight device; a first diffusion plate between the display panel and the backlight device; and a second diffusion plate arranged at a predetermined angle with respect to the first diffusion plate.

According to one embodiment, an illumination device includes a light source, clad, and a plurality of cores. The clad includes a first edge at a light source side, a second edge opposite to the first edge, and a plurality of grooves formed by a plurality of partitions extending in parallel to each other from the first edge to the second edge. The cores are accommodated in the grooves, and each core includes an incident surface on which light from the light source is incident and an exit surface exposed from the groove to emit the light incident on the incident surface.

According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: a plurality of light sources; a display device irradiated with light from the light sources; and a controller. The display area includes a plurality of partial areas corresponding to the light sources on a one-to-one basis. Each of the partial areas includes a first area and a second area, the first area being irradiated with light from a first light source that corresponds thereto, and the second area being irradiated with light from the first light source and a second light source adjacent to the first light source. The controller controls an operation of the first light source based on whether the first area requires the light from the first light source and whether the second area obtains light required for display output by receiving the light from the second light source.

According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: a plurality of light sources; a display device that includes a display area provided with npixels and that is irradiated with light from the light sources; a light source controller controlling an operation of the light sources; and a display controller controlling an output gradation value of part or all of the pixels. The display area includes a plurality of partial areas, the partial areas corresponding to the light sources on a one-to-one basis. The light source controller determines the amount of light emitted from each light source corresponding to a corresponding one of the partial areas based on luminance of light required for the corresponding partial area. The display controller performs first correction and second correction when the amounts of light emitted from two light sources corresponding to two adjacent partial areas are different.

A display device is disclosed. In one embodiment, it includes a light source, a light guide including an entrance surface facing the light source and an exit surface from which light incident on the entrance surface exits, and a display panel including a display area in which a plurality of display pixels are arranged, with the display area facing the exit surface. The display panel is configured to selectively transmit light incident on the display area for displaying an image in the display area by driving the display pixels. A dimming panel including a dimming area faces the display area and the exit surface, and is configured to change a transmittance of light incident on the dimming area for each portion in the dimming area.
