Methods of making a fluorescent white toner are provided. In embodiments, such a method comprises forming one or more fluorescent latexes which comprise a fluorescent agent, a first type of amorphous resin, and a second type of amorphous resin, wherein the first and second types of amorphous resins are present at a ratio in a range of from 2:3 to 3:2; forming a mixture comprising the one or more fluorescent latexes; a dispersion comprising a white colorant and a surfactant; one or more emulsions which comprise a crystalline resin, the first type of amorphous resin, the second type of amorphous resin; and optionally, a wax dispersion; aggregating the mixture to form particles of a predetermined size; forming a shell over the particles of the predetermined size to form core-shell particles; and coalescing the core-shell particles to form a fluorescent white toner. The fluorescent white toners and methods of using such toners are also provided.

Fluorescent white toners and related methods

Described herein is a metallic toner. The metallic toner includes flake shape toner particles having a binder resin, zinc stearate, silica having a particle size of from 7 nm to less than 12 nm in an amount of about 0.1 weight percent to 1.0 about weight percent of the flake shape toner particle and tabular shape metallic pigments. The flake shape toner particles have an average major axis length of from 6 &#x3bc;m to 20 &#x3bc;m, an average thickness of from 1 &#x3bc;m to 4 &#x3bc;m and an average circularity of from 0.5 to 0.97. The tabular shape metallic pigments have an average major axis length of from 1 &#x3bc;m to 14 &#x3bc;m an average thickness of from 0.01 &#x3bc;m to 0.5 &#x3bc;m.

A phase inversion emulsification process for controlling latex particle size including a) combining a resin, an organic solvent, an optional neutralizing agent, and a first portion of water in a reactor; wherein said reactor is equipped with a jacket, a vacuum, a condenser connected to the reactor by a distillate conduit, and a receiver connected to the condenser by a condensate conduit, to form a water-in-oil dispersion mixture; b) adding a second portion of water to the reactor to convert the water-in-oil dispersion mixture into an oil-in-water dispersion comprising a latex emulsion of latex particles; c) forming a distillate and controlling the distillate temperature by at least one of: adjusting the jacket temperature, adjusting the vacuum level, or a combination thereof; wherein controlling the distillate temperature controls a particle size distribution change of the latex particles during solvent removal; wherein the distillate temperature is from about 30 to about 80&#xb0; C.; d) performing solvent removal wherein volatile organic compounds are pulled out of the liquid phase in the reactor to a vapor phase and transferred to the condenser via the distillate conduit; e) cooling distillate vapor in the condenser to a liquid phase; and f) collecting the liquid condensate in the receiver.

Phase inversion emulsification process for controlling latex particle size

A toner process comprising (a) providing at least one amphiphilic block copolymer prepared by surfactant-free emulsion polymerization comprising: dissolving a hydrophilic monomer in water; adding a hydrophobic monomer; adding a feed initiator to produce a colloidal dispersion of amphiphilic block copolymer; and optionally, discharging the amphiphilic block copolymer; (b) contacting one or more of a latex polymer, a wax; and a colorant with the colloidal dispersion of amphiphilic block copolymer to form a blend; or contacting the discharged amphiphilic block copolymer with one or more of a latex polymer, a wax dispersion, and a colorant dispersion, and forming a further dispersion; (c) heating the blend or further dispersion at a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the latex polymer to form aggregated toner particles; (d) adding a coalescing agent to the toner particles thereby coalescing the toner particles; and (e) recovering the toner particles.
