A multi-stage transmission ( ) of which gears do not rattle when an engine ( ) is idling. The multi-stage transmission ( ) is equipped with a splitter ( ) that has a neutral position (N). The splitter ( ) is located between a clutch ( ) and a main transmission ( ). A drive power from the engine ( ) is not transmitted to the main transmission when the splitter ( ) is in the neutral position. Thus, a counter shaft ( ) in the transmission ( ) does not rotate, and the gears in the transmission ( ) do not rattle. The splitter ( ) is shifted to a high or low gear (H or L) after a predetermined interval (tint) so that the gears rotate and lubrication oil is caused to splash. When the splitter ( ) is in the neutral position, the lubrication oil is not fed to shaft supports (bearings) in the transmission ( ). The interval period is determined from temperature of the lubrication oil.

Multi-stage transmission of vehicle

A multiple-gear vehicle transmission ( ) has a split gear assembly ( ) on its input side, a range gear assembly ( ) on its output side, and a main gear assembly ( ) between them. A drive power of an engine ( ) is transmitted to a propeller shaft ( ) via the multiple-gear vehicle transmission ( ). The split gear assembly ( ) has a neutral position (N) in addition to high and low gear positions (H, L). In general, a splitter controller ( ) intermittently shifts the split gear assembly ( ) between the neutral position (N) and high gear position (H) to intermittently lubricate various parts such as bearings ( A, B, C) and synchronization mechanisms in a transmission casing ( ). By shifting the split gear assembly ( ) into the high gear position, a counter shaft ( ) is caused to rotate so that oil is scooped up toward the bearings by the counter shaft ( ) and is also supplied to the bearings by an oil pump ( ). However, when the engine ( ) is started after a considerable period, the controller ( ) prohibits the split gear assembly ( ) from being shifted into the neutral position (N) in order to continuously lubricate the bearings ( A, B, C) for a certain period. The intermittent lubrication is conducted after that.

Multiple-gear vehicle transmission

An automatic transmission can automatically change gears as if it were manually operated when a gearshift lever is operated in a large-sized car. When a gear changing operation is found to be of a hooked type, a gear drawing or shifting control is carried out according to the position of the gearshift lever. Subsequently, without any recognition of the neutral position, a gear selecting control and then the next gear shifting control are performed.
