A disk-like recording medium recording/reproducing method or apparatus for performing a data recording operation and a data reproducing operation to the disk-like recording medium alternately. The recording operation is performed at a constant linear velocity, and whether a recording area at an ending point of an n-th recording operation on the medium is continuous to a recording area at a starting point of an (n+1) the recording operation is identified. When a discontinuation of the recording area is identified, the rotational speed at the starting point of the (n+1)th recording operation is changed, during a reproducing operation between the n-th recording operation and the (n+1)th recording operation. When a continuation of the recording area is identified, the rotational speed of the disk-like recording medium at the ending point of the n-th recording operation is held, during a reproducing operation between the n-th recording operation and the (n+1)th recording operation.

A disk-shaped recording medium recording/reproducing method for performing a data recording operation and a data reproducing operation to the disk-shaped recording medium alternately includes identifying whether a recording area at an ending point of an n-th recording operation on the disk-shaped recording medium, where n is a natural number, is continuous to a recording area at a starting point of (n+1) recording operation. When the recording and reproduction are alternated repetitively, the rotation for recording is controlled in stable fashion. To this end, the rotation of the recording medium is controlled in accordance with the recording control method during the recording, and the rotational speed at the time of switching from the recording mode to the reproduction mode is held during the reproduction period, thereby stably controlling the rotation of the medium for recording.

Reproduction or recording of management information or catalog information for main information recorded or to be recorded is triggered by the operation of the fitting aid member. Alternatively, a recording and reproduction apparatus is mounted with a disk detector, with which the mounting of the disk on a tray can be detected, and the recording and reproduction of information to or from the storage is triggered by this detection.

An optical recording disk intended only for the reproduction of a main information and used by a information management system has the attachment of a memory in which data for the management of the main information is written and read out easily and reliably. The memory has associated electromagnetic coupling means for transacting the record management data with and receiving power from a recording/reproduction apparatus. The electromagnetic coupling means is built in the memory or disposed in an annular or spiral form on the disk. The transmission frequency band for data transaction and power supply is set outside the main information reproduction frequency band. The memory is disposed in or on an appropriate plastic layer of the disk depending on the usage of the disk, and located in the inner or outer section of the recording medium forming area on the disk depending on the transmission band. This low-cost optical disk can be manufactured at a high reliability and high yield.

For providing a recording disc, on which information can be renewed by signals, such as electromagnetic waves, and further with which unnecessary vibration due to an eccentricity in center of gravity of the disc can be reduced when the disc is rotated at high rotation velocity, wherein there are positioned an antenna portion, which enables to receive information and/or electric power on the disc, and a memory chip(s) for transmitting the information received to the disc and for renewing that information. A helical scan data recording and playback apparatus includes a tape driving motor which continuously transports a magnetic tape on which there are a data recording area and a plurality of reference helical tracks preceding the data recording area. The data recording area is for recording and playback of target data on and from data recording tracks in the data recording area. The reference helical tracks have a specific pattern prerecorded thereon in a predetermined area of the helical reference tracks, and a configuration of the helical reference tracks is similar to a configuration of the data recording tracks. A capstanless tape feed control system of a reel-drive type is capable of accurately detecting the respective working radii of a supply reel and a take-up reel and the total length of the tape, of efficiently controlling tape speed and of preventing damage to the tape. The tape feed control system calculates the working radii of the supply reel and the take-up reel and the total length of the tape while the leading end of the tape is moving toward the take-up reel, and detects tape speed on the basis of data representing the total length of the tape and the radius ratio between the supply reel and the take-up reel. The tension of the tape and the reel driving torque are detected while the tape is being fed and the working radii of the supply reel and the take-up reel are calculated on the basis of the tension and the reel driving torque. A tape loading operation and a tape unloading operation are performed after the leading end of the tape has been pulled out from the take-up reel, with the supply reel being held stationary and a predetermined back tension being applied to the tape by the take-up reel.
