A friction plate for a wet-type multiplate clutch provided with a core plate and friction linings fixed on opposite sides of the core plate, respectively. Each of the friction linings is formed such that at a section thereof located on a side radially inner than a radial center line thereof, the friction lining has a thickness that gradually increases from an inner circumferential portion of the section toward an outer circumferential portion of the section.

In a lockup clutch assembly for use in a torque converter, a friction lining attached to one of a clutch piston and a front cover of the torque converter is divided into an outer-circumference-side friction lining and an inner-circumference-side friction lining. Wet friction material and process for producing the same

In a wet type multiplate clutch wherein outer tooth plates and inner tooth plates rotatable relative to each other are coaxially alternately disposed and are frictionally engaged with each other, of a plurality of oil grooves having opening portions opening to the inner peripheral edges of frictional materials secured to the inner tooth plates, at least 50 percent of the opening portions are opposed to a lubricant supply hole formed in a hub.

Wet type multiplate clutch

In a wet friction material formed from carbon fibers as a main ingredient and synthetic organic highly-fine fibers as reinforcing material, the carbon fibers as a main ingredient are formed into a shape. Further, the compounding ratio of each of the carbon fibers and the reinforcing material is made to be within a range from 10 to 50% with respect to paper ingredients.

Wet friction material

A friction plate is constituted by a core plate, and friction members fixed respectively to opposite surfaces of the core plate. The friction member has oil passages, extending therethrough from its inner peripheral surface to its outer peripheral surface, and oil grooves which are open to the inner peripheral surface, but do not extend through the friction member. The area ratio of the oil grooves to the oil passages is 25% to 100%; and the width of the oil groove is not larger than the width of the oil passage. The length of the oil groove is not less than 1/4 of the length of the oil passage. It is not necessary that all of the oil grooves have the same length. Preferably, the width of the oil passage, as well as the width of the oil groove, is not more than 3 mm. The oil passages and the oil grooves may be inclined relative to the radial direction.

Friction plate

In a method of producing a wet friction material according to the present invention, a water soluble material is dispersed into a raw paper including a fibrous base material, a filler, and a friction adjusting agent. Then, the raw paper is passed through water to dissolve the water soluble material to provide porosity. Thereafter, the raw paper is immersed with thermosetting resin, and heated and hardened to thereby produce a wet friction material.

A lining for a brake band wherein brackets of the same shape or different shapes are connected respectively to opposite ends of a curved thin strap having an adhesive thereon, and a thin wet lining is bonded to an inner side of the curved strap, characterized in that cavities containing lubricating oil are formed in the lining.

In a torque converter with a lock-up mechanism which can decrease a distribution of hydraulic pressure in the radial and circumferential directions of a frictional material, which can prevent the creation of any excess reaction by the distribution of hydraulic pressure, and which can efficiently give a fastening force to the frictional material to thereby improve transmission torque capacity, an oil groove for reducing the distribution of hydraulic pressure is provided on the frictional material or a piston. This oil groove is provided for depressurization at a location which does not hinder the fastening function.

Torque converter with a lock-up mechanism

A wet frictional plate including a made of a metal plate that is formed so as to have a plate thickness which changes to gradually increase from its outer circumferential portion toward its inner circumferential portion. Frictional materials are bonded to the surfaces of the metal plate while they are pressed and heated to make the frictional surfaces of the frictional materials parallel to each other. As a result, the density of the frictional materials increases in a direction from the outer circumferential portion of the wet frictional plate toward its inner circumferential portion.

A wet multidisk friction clutch is constructed of a plurality of driving friction disks connected to an input shaft and a plurality of driven friction disks connected to an output shaft and arranged alternately with said driving friction disks, whereby power is selectively transmitted by frictional engagement between said driving friction disks and said driven friction disks. Each of said driving friction disks comprises a metal core and friction linings applied on opposite sides of said metal core and is partly cut off in a radial direction to define end portions, thereby forming a partly-open annular shape.
