The present invention provides an electromagnetic actuator wherein an electromagnetic driving force for a movable component fixed to a driven member is continuously controlled by a control coil installed in a fixed component, the movable component is light weighted and a high fabricating accuracy of the actuator is not required. The electromagnetic actuator comprises a movable magnet of the movable component and a fixed magnet of the fixed component, and the control coil is installed between the first magnetic pole of the movable magnet and the first magnetic pole of the fixed magnet. And the movable magnet of the movable component is controlled by a totalized electromagnetic force wherein the totalized electromagnetic force is a sum of an electromagnetic repulsive force by the fixed magnet and an electromagnetic controlling force by the control coil of the fixed component.

Electromagnetic actuator

A radar antenna with a parabolic reflector having a combined polarization twist reflecting unit and a plane reflector that reflects and transmits radio waves according to their polarized direction and with the plane reflector disposed outside. The plane reflector is integral with the case of the antenna and is disposed at a position that is approximately half of the distance from the parabolic reflector to the focal point of the parabolic reflector. Additionally, a primary radiator is disposed at a center position of the parabolic reflector and at a distance for the plane reflector that is approximately a distance from the plane reflector to the focal point of the plane reflector.

Radar antenna

A running resistance detecting apparatus detects a running resistance of a vehicle indicative of the running state thereof on the basis of an engine torque and a vehicle acceleration. A number of devices, such as a cruise control device, an automatic transmission device, a traction control device, a power steering device, a suspension control device and the like, can be controlled in accordance with the running resistance of the vehicle thus calculated. The control performance of these devices can significantly be enhanced together with improved maneuverability of the vehicle.

Apparatus for detecting the running resistance of a vehicle

An aromatic cruising speed controller for an automotive vehicle adjusts the throttle valve of the engine to perform the constant speed cruising control of the vehicle. A running resistance detector unit 18 calculates the running resistance R from the output torque T of the engine, the vehicle acceleration .alpha., and the engine set-up condition including the gear ratio G. During the transient period immediately after the cruising control is commenced or resumed, the torque T0 of the engine which is necessary for attaining the target vehicle speed V0 is determined from the running resistance R, the gear ratio G, and the target throttle position is determined on the basis of this torque T0. Under the steady state, on the other hand, the throttle position is controlled in accordance with the proportional plus integral control method, such that the deviation .DELTA.V of the vehicle speed V from the target vehicle speed V0 is reduced to zero. The drop or the overshoot of the vehicle speed during the transient period is thus suppressed. Alternatively, the proportional and the integral control gains of the throttle position are varied in accordance with the variation of the running resistance R. The response delay and the hunting of the vehicle speed under the uphill/downhill driving condition can thus be suppressed.

Automatic cruising speed controller for an automotive vehicle

The control unit 2 of an automobile includes: a ROM 2b for storing predetermined values representing normal (i.e., warmed-up) operating states of the engine, and a RAM 2c for storing cumulative values of outputs of various sensors. The cumulative values are continually compared with the predetermined values, and failure diagnosis of the engine is effected only when the cumulative values exceed the predetermined values.

A control apparatus for an automatic transmission calculates the running resistance of a vehicle based on the vehicle acceleration and the torque generated by the engine. When the running resistance exceeds a first prescribed value, it is determined that the vehicle is travelling on an uphill slope on which upshifting should not take place, so the transmission is prevented from upshifting. When the running resistance falls below a second prescribed value, it is determined that the vehicle is travelling on a downhill slope, so the transmission is made to downshift to a gear in which the engine of the vehicle will perform engine braking. When the running resistance is between the first and second prescribed values, the control apparatus controls the transmission based on the vehicle speed and the throttle opening.
