A bonding die for forming an automotive seat, which comprises a lower die member, an upper die member movable towards and away from the lower die member, and an elevation mechanism operable at the lower die member. A foam cushion member secured to the upper die member may be pressed and bonded to a trim cover assembly placed on the lower die member so as to produce a bonded unit for forming the automotive seat. At the completion of this bonding, the elevation mechanism is operated to lift and float the bonded unit from the lower die member to provide a state where the bonded unit may be smoothly taken out from the lower die member without tear and damage caused in the trim cover assembly.

A location board in a covering member of a vehicle seat, which is used in such a seat assemblage which involves bonding at least two cover sections of a covering member to a cushion member and is of such type that can be teared along the sewn jointed portion of those two cover sections for attaining a resultant seat. The location board is formed with a notched portion laying along an imaginary sewing line. In the seat assemblage, the two cover sections of covering member are sewn to one section of the location board, thus forming a series of sewing holes in the location board. The notched portion is elongated in reference to the sewing holes at such a length that permits a tearing to occur from the notched portion towards the sewing holes in a direction to prevent creation of a pointed projection at the teared edge of residual section of location board in the resultant seat at a stage of tearing off another section of the same location board.

A method of forming a trim cover assembly for an automotive seat by means of a high-frequency welding in which a previously-cut film of a predetermined shape adapted to represent a decorative pattern is welded to a substrate, to thereby form the trim cover assembly. In this method, a welding die is employed which has an outer configuration identical to that of the film and a film guide provided therewith.

A trim cover assembly for a seat used in a vehicle such as an automobile is disclosed which is a combination of a top cover member, a foam wadding and a wadding cover welded together by means of high frequency waves and also which is formed with a plurality of stitches by means of such high frequency waves on the top surface thereof for the improved appearance thereof. In the portions of the welder stitches where the trim cover assembly is curvedly placed, there is provided a non-welded portion, making the trim cover assembly easy to curve in such portions as well as preventing the production of wrinkles.

Trim cover assembly for vehicle seats

A trim cover assembly forming the surface of a vehicle seat such as an automotive seat is disclosed which comprises a three-layer lamination composed of a thermally weldable covering material, a wadding formed of a thermally weldable foam material and a wadding cover. In the trim cover assembly, the three-layer lamination is pressurized and heated by a high frequency welding machine to form a plurality of recessed grooves in one or more main bodies of the trim cover assembly and at the same time to provide a plurality of joint portions, which are formed by collapsing the above-mentioned three elements of the trim cover assembly, along the ends of the trim cover assembly lying in the extensions of the recessed grooves, so that the intersections of the recessed grooves and joint portions are regularly folded to facilitate the positive and fine welding of other components of the trim cover assembly to the joint portions.

A decorative button for use in the surface of an automotive seat and method for making same are disclosed. In the method, a button core member is set on the back side of a trim cover assembly comprising a top cover member, a wadding and a wadding cover, and the button core member is covered by a reinforcing member. The peripheries of the button core member are then pressed and heated to weld the top cover member, wadding, wadding cover and reinforcing member around the button core member to one another into an integral body and, at the same time, to form a deep-valley-shaped recessed portion in the surface of the top cover member around the button core member.

A method of manufacturing a cushion material by welding under heat a first layer to an adjoining second layer at necessary portions of the latter by use of a welding member having a plurality of pressure applying projections. The material of the second layer is deformed and molten and flows at temperatures higher than those of the material of the first layer. In the method, the surface portions of the first layer not engaged by the welding member and lying closer to the welding member and/or the welding member itself are cooled by cooling gas thereby welding the first layer to the second layer without giving rise to any appreciable thermal change on the surface of the first layer except the portions engaged by the welding member.
