A POS system including at least one store server and a plurality of POS terminals. Each POS terminal includes means for transmitting transaction data to the store server as a transaction occurs at the POS terminal, means for querying the store server for transaction data relating to a transaction that occurred at another POS terminal, means for instructing the store server to cancel the transaction that occurred at the other POS terminal, and means for executing a transaction cancel instruction received from the store server to cancel a transaction that occurred at the POS terminal, and the store server includes means for receiving a transaction cancel instruction from a POS terminal other than the POS terminal at which the transaction occurred, and for transferring the transaction cancel instruction to the POS terminal at which the transaction occurred. With this configuration, the POS system allows any transaction, including a sales transaction, originally registered at any POS terminal, to be canceled through any other POS terminal in the POS system. It is also possible to correct transaction data without canceling the entire transaction. As a result, transaction data can be readily corrected when an operator's input error is found or when a purchased product is returned by a customer, and an easy-to-operate POS system can thus be provided.

POS system

Cash received from a customer is placed by cashier into a change device, which is connected to a point of sales terminal. The change device counts an amount of cash by its type, and stores a counted amount into a memory unit. Further the change device stores an amount of change that discharged from the change device. The amount of cash stored in the memory unit is sent to the point of sales terminal and to a server. The server contains cash-on-hand table, and by receiving the amount of cash from the point of sales terminal, the server updates the cash-on-hand table. The cash-on-hand table is used to determine whether any of the point of sales terminal needs cash to be supplemented or not.

Point of sales terminal, point of sales system, and method for managing cash-on hand information

A terminal unit, to which commodity information is input, processes the input commodity information. The terminal unit includes a first conversion unit for converting transaction information including at least the input commodity information into information corresponding to a high density bar code, the transaction information being information regarding the transaction of one or a plurality of commodities, and a bar code printing unit for printing the high density bar code on a sheet based on the information obtained by the first conversion unit. The terminal unit may further includes a reading unit for optically reading the high density bar code, printed on the recording sheet, representing the transaction information and for outputting the transaction information represented by the bar code, the transaction information being processed by the terminal unit.

SYSTEM AND METHOD OF OPERATION OF HOST AND TERMINAL UNIT HAVING FUNCTION FOR CONVERTING TRANSACTION AND COMMODITY INFORMATION INTO BAR CODE FOR PRINTING ON JOURNALS AND RECEIPTS AND READING THEREFORM FOR INPUT TO SYSTEM

A terminal unit processes commodity information relating to each of one or more commodities involved in a transaction and transaction information defining the transaction. The terminal unit includes a first conversion unit for converting the transaction information for a transaction, including at least the input commodity information for each commodity involved in the transaction, into a corresponding high density bar code pattern which is supplied to a printer which prints the corresponding high density bar code pattern on a recording sheet. A bar code reader optically reads the high density bar code pattern, printed on the recording sheet, and outputs the corresponding transaction and related commodity information for processing by the terminal unit. The bar code reader distinguishes between a first bar code pattern read from the commodity and a second, higher density bar code pattern printed on and read from a recording sheet.

A reading unit reads two dimensional bar codes which indicate at least a majority of commodity information of the commodities required for managing the commodities. A file producing unit produces a commodity master file based on the thus-read commodity information. Each code of the codes is adhered to a respective commodity of the commodities. The majority of commodity information comprises information which is determined when the commodities are shipped.

Commodity management system

A Point of Sale (POS) system includes a portable terminal for a customer and an adjustment POS terminal connected to the portable terminal in a retail store. The portable terminal includes an input unit for inputting article codes corresponding to goods selected by a customer and a local price look-up (PLU) file for storing main article codes. A retrieval unit retrieves the article information from the local PLU file in accordance with the article code input through the input unit, and a calculation unit performs calculation processes in accordance with the result of retrieval by the retrieval unit. A display unit then displays the article information and a result of calculation by the calculation unit. A storage unit stores the article information and a result of calculation by the calculation unit. A communication unit sends the article information which is temporarily stored in the storage unit to the adjustment POS terminal. The adjustment terminal includes a communication unit for receiving the article information which is sent from the portable terminal, and a calculation unit for performing adjustment processes in accordance with the article information received.
