A backlight device, where expense reduction is promoted by standardizing lengths of LED boards to one type. The backlight device includes: a light guide plate; and LED boards which are arranged facing end surfaces of side surface portions of the light guide plate and on which LEDs introducing light to the light guide plate are mounted, wherein lengths of long sides of the LED boards arranged on long sides facing end surfaces in a long side direction of the light guide plate and lengths of long sides of the LED boards arranged on short sides facing end surfaces in a short side direction of the light guide plate are all the same.

Backlight device, image display device, and method of assembling backlight device

A display has light emitting elements, a first driver, a power source, and a second driver. Each light emitting element includes 'n' emission layers formed one over another to form a color dot in each pixel. The first driver drives the emission layers to emit light or no light. The power source passes a current through the first driver to the light emitting element. The second driver individually weights the n emission layers and makes the emission layers emit light so that each dot may express a gradation level.

Display with multiple emission layers

A display module is equipped with a display panel having a display screen for displaying images on a front side of the panel. A panel chassis is provided on a rear side of the display panel with respect to the display screen. The display module is assembled with a plurality of fixing members. Each fixing member has a panel holder to hold the display panel as covering a portion of a periphery of the display screen and a chassis coupling member coupled to the panel chassis so that the display panel is interposed between the panel holder and the panel chassis.

An optical unit for use in a backlight device of a liquid crystal display apparatus, includes a light-diffusing component to diffract incident light and a light-collecting component having multiple microlenses each having a shape of a hemisphere- or semi-oval-like protrusion on a light-emitting side of the light-collecting component. The components are provided in this order on an optical path of light emitted from a light source of the backlight device. The light-diffusing component includes a diffusing section having a first surface that faces the light source and an opposite second surface, and first and second prisms provided on the first and second surfaces, respectively. Each prism has a cross section like a teeth of a saw. Each first prism has a summit protruding towards the light source. Each second prism has a summit protruding in an opposite direction of the first prism.

Optical unit, backlight device, liquid crystal module and liquid crystal display apparatus

An image display apparatus includes an image display apparatus main body and a pedestal part supporting the image display apparatus main body. The image display main body has a display module, a center frame, a left R cover, a right R cover, and an upper pedestal fixing member connecting part. The display module displays an image on a front face. The center frame is connected to the back face of the display module, and a part thereof is exposed to the outside. The left R cover and the right R cover are connected to the center frame, and cover the back face of the display module. The upper pedestal fixing member connecting part is provided protruding backward from the center frame. The pedestal part has a bottom plate part, a pedestal fixing member, and an upper center frame connecting part. The pedestal fixing member is provided in the bottom plate part. The upper center frame connecting part is provided in the pedestal fixing member, and supports the image display apparatus main body via the upper pedestal fixing member connecting part.

Image display apparatus and housing assembly configuration

An optical unit for use in a backlight device of a liquid crystal display apparatus, has a first light-collecting and -diffusing optical component, a light-collecting optical component, and a second light-collecting and -diffusing optical component, provided in this order on the optical path of light emitted from a light source. Each light-collecting and -diffusing optical component has a surface provided on which are a plurality of microlenses each having a shape of a hemisphere- or semi-oval-like protrusion, with light collecting and diffusing functions. The light-collecting optical component has a surface provided on which are a plurality of prisms each having a saw-teeth like section, with a light collecting function. Each surface is provided on a light-emitting side of the optical unit.

A video signal is processed using dither coefficients. Dither coefficients pattern signals are generated. Each pattern signal carries positive and negative dither coefficients arranged in an (n&#xd7;m) matrix where 'n' and 'm' being positive integers larger than zero, the sum total of the coefficients being zero. One of the pattern signal is selected for each predetermined unit of picture carried by the video signal. Or, it is selected according to locations of dither coefficients on pixels arranged on a display panel. Dither coefficients of the selected pattern signal are added to an input video signal, thus outputting a video signal to be supplied to the display panel. Instead of the dither coefficients pattern signals, dither pattern signals can be generated, each carrying positional data indicating locations of dither coefficients on the pixels on the display panel. A dither coefficient signal to be added to the input signal is generated which carries the dither coefficients arranged in a matrix for each gradation level of the input video signal in response to one of the dither pattern signal. Dither coefficients pattern signals can be generated according to color gradation levels of data carried by the input video signal, the data being supplied to each of dot matrices that constitute the pixels, each pattern signal carrying dither coefficients arranged in a matrix corresponding to each dot matrix. One of dither coefficients is selected from each pattern signal with respect to each dot matrix, thus outputting a dither coefficients pattern signal that carries the dither coefficients selected from the pattern signals and arranged in the matrix. The dither coefficients carried by the output pattern signal to be added to the input video signal are adjusted so that the sum total of the dither coefficients carried by the output pattern signal is zero.

Apparatus and method of video signal processing for matrix display apparatus

A video signal processing apparatus processes an input video signal for displaying an image based on the video signal. Detected is a gradation level of the input video signal. A color saturation level of the input video signal is depressed in a predetermined color saturation level range only when the detected gradation level is located in a predetermined gradation level range. A first input video signal having a first gradation level (or number of bits) is converted into a second video signal having a second gradation level (or number of bits) that is lower (or smaller) than first gradation level (or number of bits), for displaying an image based on the input video signal. Error data is generated in response to a data portion of the first input video signal. The data portion corresponds to a difference between the first and the second gradation levels (or number of bits). The error data is obtained by multiplying the data portion by predetermined error diffusion coefficients according to pixel dots that surround a pixel dot composed of R(red)-, G(green)- and B(blue)-signal components of the first input video signal. At least one of the number of bits of the error diffusion coefficients for one of the R-, G- and B-signal components is different from the other number of bits of the error diffusion coefficients for the other signal components The generated error data is added to the first input video signal to convert the first input video signal into the second video signal. Reverse-gamma correction may be applied to the first input video signal before conversion.
