A small personal watercraft having an exhaust system that is designed to provide adequate length and which has a downwardly inclined section that is disposed above the exhaust manifold for ensuring that water cannot enter the engine through the exhaust system. The engine is water cooled and the coolant that is circulated through the engine cooling jacket is discharged back to the body of water in which the watercraft is operating through the exhaust system. A direct coolant discharge having a relatively large effective area for limiting the amount of water entering the exhaust system. A tell-tale discharge is disposed in a lower portion of the hull to be visible by a rider but will not enter the passenger's area and will drain from the tell-tale when the engine is not running.

Exhaust system for watercraft

An air intake device for a marine propulsion engine that effectively separates water from the intake air and precludes that water from being swept back into the induction system for the engine. A plenum chamber is formed as a separate part of the air intake device and is connected to the carburetor through a transition portion that extends across the upper end of the plenum chamber. The plenum chamber is displaced forwardly of the carburetor so as to not interfere with it or restrict its size.

Air intake system

An exhaust system for a small watercraft that includes a water trap device for precluding water entering the exhaust system if the watercraft becomes inverted from entering the engine through the exhaust system. Coolant from the engine is delivered to a cooling jacket that encircles the entire exhaust system and is introduced into the exhaust gases downstream of the water trap so that in the event of inversion and righting the engine coolant will also not enter the exhaust system. This also provides protection for catalyzers in the exhaust system.

Exhaust system for small boat

A small watercraft embodying an improved exhaust system that is substantially completely watercooled by a cooling jacket. The exhaust system includes an elastic joint that is also completely surrounded by the cooling jacket so as to insure adequate cooling under all running conditions. A damming arrangement is incorporated so as to insure that all of the exhaust portions being cooled will be completely encircled with cooling water even when low amounts of water are being circulated and a drain system is also provided so as to insure that the cooling jackets will be drained when the watercraft is removed from a body of water.
