This application is directed to a home monitoring and control system including a doorbell installed at a door of a home. The doorbell has a button configured to, upon being pressed, wirelessly initiate a first communication to indicate presence of a person at the door. The doorbell also has a camera configured to capture video data within a field of view, and a processor configured to cause a communication component to enable the first communication and wirelessly stream via a remote server the video data captured by the camera to a monitoring device associated with an occupant of the home.

Home monitoring and control system

Various systems and methods related to smart-home networking are presented. A low-power smart home device may be exclusively battery powered. The low-power smart home device may transmit data via a low-power communication protocol to a spokesman smart home device. The spokesman smart home device may receive the data transmitted via the low-power communication protocol. The spokesman smart home device may be a doorbell, a thermostat, a hazard detector, or a wall switch. The spokesman smart home device may connected to household wiring that provides power. The spokesman smart home device may translate the data from the low-power communication protocol to a relatively high-power communication protocol. The spokesman smart home device may transmit the data, via the relatively high-power communication protocol, to a cloud-based server system.

Smart-home environment networking systems and methods

This patent specification relates to various smart-home systems. Such a system may include a battery-powered smart home device that communicates using a first wireless protocol characterized by relatively low power usage and relatively low data rates. Such a system may further include a smart wall outlet device. A rechargeable battery is coupled to a housing wire and configured to be charged via the housing wire, and the doorbell is configured to charge and discharge the rechargeable battery based on power usage of the doorbell.

This patent specification relates to a wall switch that comprises a docking station and a user-removable wall-switch head unit. In some embodiments, the docking station is configured to receive the user-removable wall-switch head unit, and configured to be permanently connected to a wall and coupled to high-power voltage wires. Systems and techniques are provided for presence and directional motion detection. Signals may be received from a sensor positioned in a structure. An indication of directional motion may be generated based on the signals from the sensor. The indication of directional motion may be generated without using signals from additional sensors. A control signal for a device in the structure may be generated in response to the indication of directional motion. The control signal may be sent to the device in the structure to be implemented by the device.

A service robot system may be present that includes a service robot that autonomously moves within a structure to perform a household task. The doorbell has a button configured to, upon being touched, depressed or activated, wirelessly cause an audio speaker of an electronic device to sound an audible notification or a message to be sent to the monitoring device to indicate presence of a person at the door. The doorbell also has a camera configured to capture video data within a field of view. The remote server is configured to receive from the doorbell the video data and the message, and relay them to the monitoring device. The application is configured to receive and display at least a portion of the video data captured by the camera of the doorbell.
