A wireless tag reading system includes wireless tag reading devices each configured to, when communicating with a wireless tag, instruct the wireless tag to transmit a response wave in a certain response format, and a management device including: a network interface configured to communicate with the reading devices, a memory that stores setting data that associates each of the reading devices with a different response format, and a processor configured to: upon receipt of a notification from a first reading device, search the memory for a first response format corresponding to the first reading device, and control the network interface to transmit, to the first reading device, information indicating the first response format. The first reading device, when communicating with a wireless tag, instructs the wireless tag to transmit a response wave in the first response format.

The processor transmits the tag information recorded in order in the buffer memory to the higher-level device via the external interface, and updates a transmission start pointer indicating untransmitted tag information in the buffer memory.
