Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for channel-bandwidth-attributed per-band user equipment capability reporting. A user equipment (UE) may determine a first and second set of physical layer capabilities associated with a first and second channel bandwidth, respectively. The UE may transmit a first and second UE capability report to the base station, where the capability reports may indicate the corresponding channel bandwidth and may include the UE physical layer capabilities. The UE may receive control information indicating a channel bandwidth from the base station and the UE may communicate with the base station according to the received control information.

Channel-bandwidth-attributed per-band user equipment capability reporting

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communication by a base station (BS). The method generally includes receiving an indication of current remaining available transmit power from a user equipment (UE). The method further includes communicating information indicating a data rate parameter and a communication configuration to the UE. The data rate parameter is for use by the UE on an uplink with the BS. The communication configuration affects uplink transmission duty cycle on the uplink based on whether the current remaining available transmit power and a current channel state between the BS and the UE satisfy a condition. The method further includes receiving signals based on the data rate parameter and the communication configuration from the UE on the uplink.

Scheduling based on available transmit power and channel state

A user equipment (UE) expedites cell reselection by reselecting a neighbor cell prior to call setup. In one instance, the UE measures a signal quality of a serving cell and a signal quality of the neighbor cell. The UE starts a reselection timer for reselecting the neighbor cell based on the measured signal quality of the serving cell and the measured signal quality of the neighbor cell. The UE reselects the neighbor cell prior to a scheduled expiration of the reselection timer.

Fast cell reselection

A user equipment (UE) expedites cell reselection. In one instance, the UE starts a reselection timer for reselecting to a neighbor cell when a signal quality of a serving cell is determined to fall below a first threshold. The UE then expedites reselecting to the neighbor cell based on a difference between the signal quality of the serving cell and the signal quality of the neighbor cell when the signal quality of the serving cell falls below a second threshold.

When a user equipment (UE) is communicating wirelessly over a wireless communication network and terminates wireless communication temporarily due to power limit constraints (such as to satisfy a specific absorption rate (SAR) threshold), the UE may maintain its radio access network (RAN) identification (ID) and domain context, in order to quickly resume wireless communication, and avoid upper layer connection setup, once the UE is no longer power limited.

Mechanisms to interlace multiple legacy frames to enhance radio resource utilization are described. Also described are mechanisms to modify a low-latency frame structure to appear as legacy frames. In one aspect, partially blanked-out legacy frames are interlaced with time offsets so that they complement each other to leave no idle system time. To a legacy user equipment, the interlaced frame appears as normal legacy frames used by multiple legacy cells. In another aspect, the low-latency frame is modified to appear as an interlaced frame. Again to the legacy user equipment, the low-latency frame appears as legacy frames from multiple legacy cells. To the low-latency user equipment, the modified low-latency frame still appear as normal low-latency frame. In this manner, radio resources of the legacy base stations are optimally utilized. Also, low-latency base stations are enabled to provide serves to the legacy user equipments without wasting radio resources.

Interlacing wireless communication frames

A system and method for relaying transmissions in wireless communications is provided. A method for combined relay node operation includes determining an operating mode of the combined relay node, where the combined relay node includes a repeater and a relay. The method also includes if the operating mode is repeater on mode, amplifying and forwarding received signals, and storing subframes, where subframes are demodulated and decoded versions of the received signals. The method further includes if the operating mode is repeater off mode, amplifying and forwarding a control zone of signals received while the operating mode is repeater off mode, and transmitting subframes stored while the operating mode is repeater on mode.

System and method for relaying transmissions in wireless communications

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate random access procedures using one or more fallback access schemes after initial access attempts have failed. UE equipped to determine failure of a first access request to a first base station due to interference from a second base station. Further, a UE equipped to determine the failure can do so and implement one or more fallback access schemes in response to the determination. In one example, a fallback access scheme allows the UE to select a secondary carrier frequency for communications with the first base station. In another example, a fallback access scheme allows the UE to designate the first base station as inaccessible and communicate with other base stations.

Apparatus and method for facilitating fallback access schemes

Methods for improving the time to acquire an identity of a base station by a mobile station, by relying on locally-unique attributes of the base stations instead of globally-unique attributes of the base stations, are presented. In some embodiments, data may be requested, the data may contain a globally unique attribute of a base station, a first locally unique attribute of the base station, and a second locally unique attribute of the base station. In some embodiments, data may be received in response to the request, the data may contain at least the first locally unique attribute and the second locally unique attribute. It may then be determined that the data did not contain the globally unique attribute, and an identity of the base station based at least in part on the first locally unique attribute and the second locally unique attribute may be acquired.

Method and apparatus for determining base station identity

A symbol sequence contained in a received signal comprising a cyclic convolution of a Walsh code multiplexed signal and a channel impulse response of a multipath channel is detected using Walsh Hadamard domain equalization techniques. The method comprises converting the received signal and the channel impulse response of the multipath channel from the time domain to the WHT domain, and determining the symbol sequence based on equalizing the received signal in the WHT domain using WHT spectra of the channel impulse response to remove inter-symbol interference from the received signal due to cross-correlation between Walsh codes.

A system and method for rate matching to enhance system throughput based on packet size is provided. A method for transmitting information includes encoding a block of N bits, where N is an integer, demultiplexing the encoded block of N bits into at least one subblock of systematic bits and at least one subblock of parity bits, and permuting the at least one subblock of systematic bits and the at least one subblock of parity bits to generate at least one permuted subblock. The method also includes forming at least one output block from the at least one permuted subblock, computing a starting position of a redundancy version for a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission based on a relationship between N and a threshold, and transmitting the redundancy version. The redundancy version begins at the computed starting position and ends when a specified number of bits has been transmitted.

System and method for rate matching to enhance system throughput based on packet size

A method of reverse link power control for a reverse packet data channel in a wireless communication system allows a mobile station to autonomously change its data transmission rate. The mobile station transmits packet data over a reverse packet data channel having a data rate variant transmit power level that varies based on a transmit data rate on the packet data channel. The mobile station further transmits control signals over a reverse control channel associated with the reverse packet data channel. The transmit power level of the reverse control channel is such that the transmit power level does not vary with the transmit data rate on the packet data channel. The radio base station measures the strength of the received signals on the reverse control channel, compares the measured strength to a power control set point, and generates a power control signal responsive to the comparison of the control signal to the power control set point.
