A lubricant additive having antiwear and antioxidant properties is the reaction product of a sulfur-containing carboxylic acid and an etheramine, preferably 3,3'-thiodipropionic acid and N-isoeicosyloxypropyl-1,3-diaminopropane which is post reacted with an aliphatic alcohol, preferably oleyl alcohol, an aliphatic amine, preferably a tert-C.sub.12 to C.sub.14 amine and/or a trialkyl phosphite, preferably a tributylphosphite. The post-reaction product contains at least one ester, amide and/or phosphonate functional group.

Antiwear and antioxidant additives

A reaction product useful as an antiwear or antioxidant additive in lubricants is made by reacting a sulfur-containing carboxylic acid, i.e. 3,3'-thiodipropionic acid and a phosphorodithioate, i.e. butoxylated bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphorodithioic acid.

Reaction products of hydrocarbylsuccinic anhydrides, hydroxyl-containing amines and triazoles have been found to be effective antirust, antioxidant, anti-corrosion, antiwear, dispersant/detergent and thermal color stabilizing additives.

Alkoxylated- or polyalkoxylate-amine-phosphite derived olefin adducts are superior as lubricating fluid media and as multifunctional additives with internal synergistic antioxidant and extreme pressure/antiwear properties for both mineral and synthetic lubricating oils as well as fuels.

Reaction products of hydrocarbylsuccinic anhydrides, polyamines and triazoles, as exemplified by XRT 2143A, have been found to be effective rust/corrosion inhibiting, thermal stabilizing and superior dispersant additives with excellent cleanliness feature for fuels and lubricants. A multifunctional antiwear and antioxidant lubricant additive is the reaction product of a diacyl halide, a source of phosphorus or a source of phosphorus and an aryl amine. The diacyl halide is derived from a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride, suitably dodecenyl succinic anhydride, an alkoxylated amine and an inorganic acid halide, suitably thionyl chloride. A suitable source of phosphorus is dibutyl phosphite or bis(nonylphenyl)phosphite. A suitable aryl amine is N-octylphenyl-1-naphthylamine.
