An electric motor and inverter assembly () used in an electric vehicle or a hybrid electric vehicle to drive the vehicle's wheels to rotate is disclosed. The electric motor and inverter assembly comprises: an electric motor (), which includes a housing including a main shell (), an end cover () and a connecting cover (), wherein a cooling passage is formed in a wall of the housing such that coolant is able to flow in the cooling passage, and an end cover () and a connecting cover () are respectively connected to opposite ends of the main shell; and an inverter, which includes a housing () in which a power element and/or an electrical device is received, wherein the housing of the inverter contacts the connecting cover such that an interface is defined between the connecting cover and the housing of the inverter, and the coolant flowing through the cooling passage is able to contact the interface.

Electric motor and inverter assembly

An electric drive system () used in an electric vehicle or a hybrid electric vehicle to drive the vehicle's wheels to rotate. The electric drive system () includes an electric motor (). The electric motor () includes a housing in which a stator and a rotor are received. A transmission device () is operatively coupled to the electric motor (); and an output shaft () is operatively coupled to the transmission device (). The output shaft () extends from the transmission device () and is substantially parallel to the rotor's axis of the electric motor (). The electric drive system () also includes an inverter () secured over the housing of the electric motor () such that the inverter is located between the output shaft () and the housing of the electric motor ().

Electric drive system

The present invention relates to an electric motor comprising a casing on which a plurality of heat dissipating fins extending in a longitudinally direction are disposed along a circumferential direction to form a longitudinally extending cooling airflow passage between adjacent heat dissipating fins; a first end cap and a second end cap attached to the casing at the ends to form a substantially closed interior space; a rotating shaft rotatably supported by the first end cap and the second end cap; a rotor positioned within in the internal space and mounted to the rotating shaft; and a stator positioned within in the internal space, surrounding the rotor and disposed adjacent to the casing. The electric motor further comprises an airflow guiding device disposed on the heat dissipating fins and allowing the heat dissipating fins to expose partially to the surrounding environment in the circumferential direction of the casing, the airflow guiding device is configured to divert the cooling airflow that tends to escape from the cooling airflow passages to the surrounding environment in the middle of the cooling airflow passages back into the cooling airflow passages. According to the present invention, it is possible to cool evenly the electric motor and improve the heat dissipation efficiency.
